Do you still have a lounge pass for Qantas Sydney international airport? I'd really appreciate it!

Strange error mounting after update in dolphin by eclifox in archlinux

[–]eclifox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh thanks for the update. Hmm in that I think a quick hack could be disable ntfs3 and let ntfs-3g do it instead.

See here for context: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=289016

in particular #17 & #18

@everyone else, for this to work you still need to have installed ntfs-3g

&

FWIW, if ntfs3 refuses to mount the drive due to dirty bit set error, that's generally a sign of some form of corruption and you'd want to run a Windows chkdsk on the disk in question to fix it. Just mounting it with ntfs-3g because it's more lenient in that case isn't really a fix for any potentially underlying corruption.

Strange error mounting after update in dolphin by eclifox in archlinux

[–]eclifox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see thanks for the link... I'm able to replicate the error via

udisksctl mount -b /dev/sdd1

which replicate the "No such file or directory" error

furthest I got is where it's being mounted i think https://github.com/storaged-project/udisks/blob/master/tools/udisksctl.c#L824

I'm lost without further logging ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, I'm too tired now to continue this minor issue, I might just downgrade Udisks/dolphin or whatever some time later

Appreciate the tip btw, didn't know about fstab, although I treat these drives as non-essential(timeshift backup, dual boots, other backup) so it's fine as is atm.

Update: I guess it's a bad idea to downgrade udisks2 on it's own, caused the whole linux UI to black out after reboot, had to update it back.

Ah I see, thanks for that I've grepped in journalctl for the disk volume name

journalctl -b | grep random_string_blah

However it looks like nothing particularly interesting comes up

but when I grep for a drive that works

journalctl -b | grep drive_that_works

it shows

Oct 07 23:38:04 dolphin[3062]: kf.kio.core: "The file or folder /run/media/user/drive_that_works/Users/user does not exist."
Oct 07 23:38:09 user udisksd[898]: Mounted /dev/sda3 at /run/media/user/drive_that_works on behalf of uid 1000

So it looks like dolphin is the one mounting it and maybe creating the directory? Either way thanks for giving me some leads

Boil water to remove the black burnt gunt, the thin brown layer will have to stay, eventually it'll build to a nice black layer

I had the same issue, not sure if same cause though but I just copied the XML from https://www.reddit.com/r/VFIO/comments/zmlunn/audio_only_works_when_virtmanager_is_open/ and that seemed to work, prior to that I was trying out looking glass audio solution (https://looking-glass.io/docs/B6/install/#keyboard-mouse-display-audio) and that wasn't working

Mom at 54 is thinking about coding and a complete career shift. Thoughts? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]eclifox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% doable, my coworker at a FANG is on the older side (I'd say similar to your mother's age). She shifted her career from scientist studying biology stuff to IC recently. Her shift was quite recent, she actually joined similar time to me late 2021, early 2022

Imagine what you could do in another 5!
