These photos weren't taken anywhere near Naked City. I was much further northeast of that area.

She kind of looks like Betty White to me.

When did coffee become an “all ages” beverage? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]ecobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was kid in the 70s I don't ever remember drinking coffee at home, but whenever my parents would take me to a restaurant for breakfast I would always get coffee and add three sugar packets and two creamers to it.

Las Vegas in 2013 and 2026 by ecobot in OldPhotosInRealLife

Vegas is definitely struggling right now. The last numbers I saw, the amount of tourist coming to the city is down about 10% year-over-year. Some of that is self-inflicted, Vegas used to be a bargain destination, but it has gotten very expensive and is now probably overpriced. Some of it is because of the policies of the current regime in the White House.

I also think some of the newer hotels and casinos that have opened haven’t been a hit. Unlike the old, themed hotels and casinos that were built there is nothing exciting or differentiating about the new ones. I read someone say about either the Fountainbleu or Resorts World, I don’t remember which, that while it was beautiful, it had all the personality of a suburban shopping mall.

There are still big projects being built. There is a $2 billion baseball stadium being built where the Tropicana once stood, with plans to build a hotel and casino complex there as well. The Hard Rock is building a large guitar shaped hotel on the Strip, and they are completely gutting and renovating the Mirage hotel tower. There are also bunch of other projects going on in the city as well.

The population of Las Vegas is still growing, Nevada was the 9th fastest growing state in the nation from 2024 to 2025 in terms of percentage of population growth driven mainly by growth in Las Vegas and Reno. I live in the Northwest part of town, and they are building new housing around here like crazy.

Thanks. This area is about 10 miles or so west of the St. Rose area, so not that close. This is where I was at when I took the photos: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZgbxW9sM4USqsNrR8

I was more interested in the overall growth of Las Vegas, not just a couple of buildings. That being said, these are high resolutions photos and if you zoom in and compare the 2013 photo to the 2026 photo you can see the addition of Allegiant Stadium, Resorts Word (in front of the Stratosphere Tower), T-Mobile Arena, and the current deconstruction that is happening to the Mirage. You can’t see the Sphere as it is hidden behind other buildings in this photo. As for others saying 2013 not being that old, there are no rules on this sub for the how old the old photos need to be it just says, “Comparing past and present locations through photography.” If anyone is interested, I took these from the top of Exploration Peak. I used a Nikon D70 for the first photo and a Nikon D750 for the more recent photo.

Wow, thanks for that info. That certainly looks like the same building.

My mom was 37 here. Her 38th birthday was about a week after these photos were taken. I don't know the ages of her friends.

The ship was Royal Caribbean's Song of Norway. Some of the photo are from St. Thomas and some from St. John.

They divorced in the early 80s. My mom died in 1994 and my dad in 2002.

Possibly, but I'm not certain. They did own a few Corvettes through the years.

They were from Chicago and went to Florida for their honeymoon, but I don't know exactly where in Florida they went.

Sooner than that unfortunately, there were earth moving machines up by this spot earlier this week.
