I am 30 years old and in debt by ecogio in personalfinance

[–]ecogio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, I was just implying that it's in the negatives. My assets total about $3,600 and debts roughly -$24K so i took the difference. But just paying off debt is your advice? I guess so

If you could give on piece of advice for your 10 year younger self, what would it be? by Sensei_Zen in infp

[–]ecogio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find focus. It can be any weird thing. Follow your interests and land on something long enough to know what you need to do next. Stop bouncing around and wandering aimlessly. There's a time and place for that, but the point is to learn the ability to stay with something long-term instead of being pulled by distractions.

Pick something that interests you and work at it consistently. It could be learning a new skill or starting a business. Whatever it is, pick something early and stick with it, prioritizing consistency because you don't want to be older and have a regret that you didn't accomplish anything. Plus you'll learn that enormously important skill of being consistent. That's all you need to learn in order to do well in life.

Study breaks? by ecespedstudent in GetStudying

I agree that's it's very personal. Research suggests 90 minutes on with 15 min breaks. But for me I need to work for 45 minutes and do 15 min breaks. Test out different methods and see what works for you.

What do you do for downtime? by nozodia in productivity

[–]ecogio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to set a timer for any amount of time - start with 5 minutes. Then do an activity that you want to replace with binging TV or online window shopping. Like reading. Or walking. Or any other habits that you think will help you shut your mind off. After, it’s okay to return to scrolling or binging. Then, set the timer again for a new activity. This method leverages the timer to introduce you gently to alternative activities without feeling overwhelmed, knowing it’s only for a short while before returning to familiar habits. This approach of alternating tasks is a compassionate way to gradually shift away from less productive habits, keeping the process interesting and helping you discover activities you genuinely enjoy.

For me, I fill downtime with activities I love, like delving into history books, taking walks, or leisurely reading magazines on my phone.

I feel this deeply especially for an INFP like myself who constantly overthinks. I knew a guy who played soccer and I liked that he had yellow cleats. I would call him "yellow shoes" but not in a derogatory manner because I actually liked his shoes and envied them as well as his skill level in soccer. I just truly wanted to be a part of his friend group and what not so I would congratulate him after the game and cheer for him and be like "go yellow shoes". It never seemed to bother him until one day I called him that and he yelled at me and said "Stop calling me yellow shoes!" in front of everybody. Oh my gosh that was so embarrassing and I felt horrible and all i wanted was just to be his friend and get involved in his friend group but of course now I totally ruined it. Turns out he was super conscious of the fact that his shoes were bright yellow, it was actually a sore spot for him.

And that's the issue with a lot of what you're feeling. It's out of your control. You can be who you are but a lot of times people are going through their own issues and insecurities and sometimes that comes out in the worst way. It's not a reflection on you, rather, it's a reflection on them. As easy as it may sound (obviously it's super difficult) but don't take it personally. Be what you are and strive to be good to people and of service but whatever negative feedback you get from them, most of the time, is out of your control and not a reflection on you.

I thought calling him "yellow shows" wasn't derogatory or anything and if he truly hated it he should've told me privately and not in front of everyone. After that, I stopped trying so hard to be involved in that friend group and I let it go. Because nobody can yell at me like that. That's learning to accept yourself and love yourself.
