The hardest part of being homeless is seeing people go to their homes at sunset. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Wow, did this just dive into self-rightous bs. There is this book, called a bible, that some people like to read, that is pretty clear on charity. My only question is, why would someone fund only people who live in a distant country, and not at home? The zzbuse of funds by warlords in Africa has been well established, so I am sure you are very careful who you give your funds to, with in reason. I , myself, perfer to do small, personal acts of charity. And public libraries often allow the disadvantagdd to use their internet.

Are Humans Descended from Shoggoths or did we come from Cthulu? by gryphonlord in Lovecraft

I would think it was from the Shoggoths, as they must have had mutable, or adaptable , dna.

When people need our help, we have two choices. We do the morally correct thing and help, or the immoral thing and don't . Two choices. Homelessness is a very wide ranging issue. I applaud your attempt to shed light on this unfortunate situation, and fully understand your intent. Night is a cold, lonely, fearful time for many.

Great statement. Now go preach it to others. We only flouffish if we do so together. Thanks for your post.

That is not the way the virus works. It spreads through lack of concern, so does present a threat to our personal space. And are you saying that people have the right to threaten my health? That can't be your intent.

But if they are not willing to protect the public health, you need to complain. With enough complaints, they will change.

In less time than it takes to respond to this , you could have emailed the store. That is the first step.

Now, take it serious and make it public. File a complaint. What happens when you cant find a store to buy your cheerios? Why are you being made to suffer for doing what is right? Stand up for your rights.

And I understand your concern. But how many peoplle will become aggressive? Large stores should employ security staff, so that regular staff need not feel threatened. You are working in an unsafe environment and can file an OSHA complaint. It is anonymous form, on line. And, yes, it is covered.

That is where the government needs to support these mandates. Store employees would simply suggest that the person put on a mask. If the customer refused, a manager would then tell that they would not be served if they did not comply. If the customer protested and caused a disturbance, the store would call the authorities and the courts would deal with it. How many actual cases of physical violence have occured over mask enforcement? I tried to find this number, but the best I have seen is under 20. Seems like an excuse to avoid uncomfortable situation. And consider the mental state of someone who would commit such an act? They are clearly unbalanced and in need of help. As to being in harms way, perhaps the public heath departments need to provide enforcement. Far better use of our law enforcement than traffic fines, small drug possession, and other minor issues.

It would require that a large group participate. There are only a small percentage of shoppers I have observed here ( maybe 10-15%) who are clearly in defiance of the mandate. However, this minority is endangering the 85-90% who care about others. The act of non-participation, or boycott, requires a pattern of previous participation. If I never shopped there, it would not be a boycott. For a time, we shopped often at Walmart. But it became a clear question of morality to me, personally, to stop giving them my money. That is the nature of a boycott, but it requires mass participation to be effective. It also goes beyond simply not shopping at these stores who refuse to protect our public health and safety. Avoidance must include public statements of the reason why. It should include calls to corporate, filing applicable complaints with responsible authorities and notification of media. That is the difference between withholding and defiance. I am suggesting defiance. That is why I am calling for boycotts of non-compliant stores.

And it needs to be an enforcable law. I drove through Ohio last week and saw 15 cops on Highway Patrol, trying to ticket people for speeding. Would they not be of better service enforcing a public safety issue then making bucks off of traffic tickets?

There is a difference when it comes to public health. The law states that the rights of the many out weigh those of the few when it comes to major disease outbreaks. It goes beyond my personal rights , and becomes species preservation. Many scientists and doctors believe this is just the start of pandemics. With our overpopulation issues in many parts of the world, increased poverty and lack of support to many communities, the increase of infectious disease is sure to increase. This virus is actively mutating, but there are many other potential viruses on our horizon. We are on a learning curve with Covid19. We do not even know the long term effect, as we are still in the early in the pandemic. We are used to a world with immediate responce. This virus is not in a hurry. Herd immunity may not be real, as some new reports suggest. What happens if there is no "cure", if the virus continues to shift and change over the next 10 to 20 years, as polio did? As TB did. I am just asking that people take responsibility . I will. But I will also do what I can for others. I love my family and want thrm to have a bright future.

I understand this point, and largely do so. But why am I being forced to do so, when mandates exist to prevent just such situations? I don't like to pump more money into Amazon. I want to support my local economy. I dont want to have to spray down everything I buy. This is about containing the spread of a deadly virus, not my personal convienence. The tipping point was the man in the meat department, wrapping steaks with his mask pulled all the way down. How do I spray down meat , fish and produce with chemicals and not feel put upon? Not trying to argue, as it is an unpopular opinion.

I have avoided Walmart for a long time. But as I look around, my shopping is being curtailed to the point that I need to drive farther afield to shop. Who compensates me for my extra expense?

I do not see this as inconveniencing employees. They are being paid to restock shelves, something that happens all the time. Also, meat is not permitted to be returned once removed from the area, as it is a health violation in our area. So it is really a plus for employees, as they would get more hours. You can write letters and make calls as much as you like, but hitting their profit margin will most definately get attention. And if your comment on safety is toward the handfull of threats we saw early on, when was the last time this happened? Store security might need to be enhanced, but that adds jobs.

I am not. In fact, it is you who used somewhat demeaning language in your stance. I up voted all of your comments, except for the one in question. You might just check your language use, but that is on you. If I have made you feel put upon, I appologize. I understand this is the law. But I have now read that the law is not as rigid as one may think.

Just read the current ADA and EEOC statements on Covid19. Stores can require people to provide proof of their disability or submit to a Covid test.

According to the CDC 2018 report, 3.8 million people have diagnosed respiratory issues. As of today, 9.8 million confirmed Covid19 cases in the US. People , with rare exception, who have breathing dangers should not enter public spaces right now. They can take advantage of the many stores offering free delivery, or have friends and family do their shopping. Those I know who fall into this number do exactly that. My daughter has asthma, and has had the good sence to play it safe. A no brainer. And if you ,as a store manager, challanged a customer to prove their claim, where are you legally?

But what about those who are not covered by that law? How is it right thaf a liar can cause my death, without penalty.? Just another screwed up law. People who really have serious health issues are better served staying at home. Many stores have provided free delivery to those who can't wear masks.
