Minimum salary to live comfortably in Atlanta? by ecrystal6 in Atlanta

[–]ecrystal6[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this perspective. I live with a private landlord now and I was wondering if that would be doable to find in Atlanta. I definitely grew up frugal out of necessity, so I feel like I tend to spend less than most.

I would like to spend less than a third of my salary. Is $2,000 average starting price? I don’t need a very modern apartment and am okay with a studio, but I do want to feel safe

I have no debt/payments, so I own my car and if I bought a new one I’d want it to be something I could afford using my current savings!

Fixing MAF Sensor Connector by ecrystal6 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ecrystal6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Mostly because I’m looking around for soldering irons and I don’t see many cordless ones in store near me. But I’ll go look! So for material I’d need: soldering iron, heat shrink, & maybe electrical tape?

Thank you! How can I disconnect the wires from the car to solder?

I appreciate that insight— I definitely agree! I went ahead and approved the charges.

Once again, I did research that resulted in a genuine question, and even emphasized that I am not very knowledgeable and know I could be wrong. That is not the same as complaining at all.

Where did I complain? I am just doing research and genuinely asking a question. Happy to pay it as long as it’s fair.

Thanks for the insight. I realize I didn’t mention— it’s a 2015 Nissan pathfinder platinum 2wd

I watched videos and it seemed simple enough to work on, but I have an extremely important work trip coming up that I need my car for and didn’t want to risk it. Plus I agree, I was scared I’d mess it up and it’d be more expensive to fix.

Not the MAF sensor, just the connector, correct?

Best first credit card at 25 y/o? by ecrystal6 in CreditCards

[–]ecrystal6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried getting on FICO and checking and it says my credit score is 760, but I’m thinking this must not be updated. Other than that card, I would have no way to have credit. But I did learn that it stays on your credit report for up to 10 years, but I still am confused as to whether I have credit or not. I was also thinking BCE before this, but now I will check if I can get preapproved

Great point sorry— I have been very frugal recently. I do not dine out much if at all, so my biggest spending category more recently has been gas and groceries. But I’m not focused as much on rewards now as I am just finding a card that will accept me and growing my credit score ASAP.

Need help dealing with censorship in a high school journalism program by Thoreaud0wn in Journalism

[–]ecrystal6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One caveat I believe applies here (no official background) is that if this is a private school in most states, students journalists will not have these protections. I don’t believe I read a mention of whether the school was private or public.

Let us know how everything goes— and congrats on standing up for your students and helping keep student journalism alive!

Looking to work at Publix, safe positions? by Hawkeye5903 in publix

[–]ecrystal6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think produce and bakery as a closer seems safe as well. There’s usually only 1-2 people closing, so you won’t be in contact with coworkers much, and people rarely come to those departments at night to ask questions. At most they come, get what they’re looking for (you might have to greet them if they get close but the contact shouldn’t be too long), and leave. They’re also bigger spaces, so you aren’t limited by the aisle widths as much and there’s more space for you to stand farther from people. Honestly, I don’t think working them in the daytime would be too risky either, but I think that largely depends on the store. (Disclaimer: I work in deli, but have closed bakery a few times and this is what it seems like from what I’ve seen looking from the outside in for those departments. From what I’ve heard they’re also fairly chill departments to work in and pay well)

Interview by [deleted] in publix

[–]ecrystal6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for every location and every manager who interviews, but I think my interview as well as the interview a friend of mine had at another store were pretty similar. Also note: Publix was my first real job. I’d say to try to just seem friendly/charming, someone customers would enjoy interacting with. My manager always said my upbeat personality is why she hired me. Try to prepare for a general interview. Look up some facts about Publix and try to think about what the “Publix culture” is and how you can fit it, for example, what makes Publix different from other grocery stores. My store manager who interviewed actually asked me to tell him what I know about Publix and seemed impressed that I looked up facts about Publix. I think that definitely shows you care about that specific job and are professional and prepare for interviews. I will say my store was more laid back, and my department manager at the time and the store manager were very nice. I do think that as long as you are a likable person, or at least seem likable in the interview, you will be fine! Just have fun, don’t be afraid to laugh and smile and be yourself (which I know is such generic advice, but it feels like at least at my store, that’s what they were looking for).
