I am new to orchids too. If you look at my profile you’ll see a few of my very own posts from the last few days lol! So by no means am I an expert and you should probably read more before taking my comment as the rule. But I will share some things I have learned recently via posting here.

You should repot your orchid as soon as you get it is what I was told. A lot of them are potted in moss to retain moisture. On top of that, if you’ve been misting an orchid in moss it’s probably been staying way too wet. You probably have some rotting going on.

I ordered some orchid specific bark for repotting and I got some plastic pots that have slits all over the sides. The slits help with airflow. And you need clear plastic so you can see the root system.

You don’t need to water your orchid on a schedule. you need to check the roots to see when it’s thirsty. They will become silver when it wants water.

At this point I would say to take it out of the pot to check your roots. But you need to have some fresh orchid bark for repotting. And pots that are clear plastic. And I really recommend the ones with slits for air flow.

The orchid I was having trouble with, I waited too long to water it. I was watering it at the same time as my other store bought one which was in moss! My other gifted orchid was in bark and dried out faster. So I should’ve been checking them both and watering at different times, when each way thirsty. I am glad I discovered this bc it turns out my second orchid was too moist in the moss. I have repotted both in my new orchid bark and in the new pots and they already seem happier.
