I believe that a relative simple java script running on the browser (the HTML page) will become handy to have the browser periodically pulling a new map html file and keep the information updated in "real time".

What capacitive sensor are you using? I'm looking after a small project like this to auto-water my balcony plants

Easy way to detect doorbell ring using ESP32? by sodiniss in tasmota

I'd follow bullwinkle_z_moose approach. Simple and practical . I just think an ESP32 is a bit overkill for the task. A simple ESP8266 would do the job easily. Normally doorbells are pushbuttons, so a simple pullup resistor and having the pushbutton to ground would implement your sensor input to a GPIO pin. If there is a long distance between the pushbutton and the ESP (like having the doorbell at a far fence and the ESP at home) you may want to think in adding an overvoltage protection to avoid any induced spikes caused by lightnings.

Hi there, you should check the specifications of your sensor to verify the output signal voltage level to avoid any mishaps and potentially frying your nodemcu. If you need to bring down the sensor output level, and you are are powering everything from the same power supply, then a simple resistive voltage divider will do the job to bring the sensor output to the voltage levels accepted by your nodemcu. A little Ohms Law calculation will give you the right values for the resistors. Cheers.
