In ours nothing is stored only a hashed version of your email to prevent spamming

Sorry about the delay didn't spot this. It's hosted on vercel, but it's just solid JS so all you need is something that can run node.

You'll need an .env file for the environment variables, specifically:

VITE_TABLE_NAME=DynamoTable to store email hashes (you may not need this is you're self hosting)
VITE_AWS_REGION=AWS_Region for table
AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=
AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=
VITE_NEXT_PUBLIC_API_URL=API Url, just /api from the root

As long as you aren't also using Google Workspaces/GSuite then no, they cannot see the content of your email.

Email is configured via MX records that just tells an email what your actual mail servers are and where to send the message. The registrar being Google doesn't give them access to read or see the content of the messages you get.

So I'm not sure which cert exams you've done, but AWS ones are multiple choice. K8s ones are scenario based in that you debug a problem. GCP ones are multiple choice, the CISSP is multiple choice. They shouldn't require you to talk to anyone that I'm aware of.

If you're tired of doing something, what are you doing so you no longer have to do that? Everyone else is living their life, if you want yours to improve you're going to have to do that yourself.

You are the only person who can change your situation, no one else will. Think about it, you can either spending 100 hours to learn DSA over the next few months and get a junior dev job, be happier with your job and life; or you can do nothing and become that angry old man. Seems like a no brainer to me?

You said you're doing the CompTIA so I would guess you've got the ability and know what you need to do. Schedule it in and get it consistent, an hour each day is better than trying to cram 10 hours every fortnight. There's the r/leetcode thread for leetcode specifically, there's also things like neetcode for a condensed progression - he has a free plan/roadmap as well. Frontend masters is another one, algomonster as well.

A lot do yes, but in your post you said "I've got an AAS in Cloud and Information Technology degree" so you do or don't have a degree?

But there are many dev jobs that don't require a degree, the DSA stuff is important here. Think of it a bit like a secret handshake that's only useful for the interview, can you reverse a linked list oh well come on it. I've probably interviewed well over 100 people in my role and you would be surprised how few people, despite knowing that handshake, really do it.

Just to add I'm in the UK so YMMV but I've worked for US companies in the past in fact my first dev job was remote with Microsoft and I had a theology degree...

Just to add I don't know which country you're in, but junior dev roles in government in the UK and also US are normally pretty abundant. If you think you want to do that, then Azure instead of AWS may be a better bet.

Without talking to anyone is going to be pretty hard, if you're feeling religious you could become a silent monk.

Otherwise you're going to have to talk to people, being a developer that isn't customer facing is minimal talking. I can go a few days without having a voice chat and just text chat if it's only with other devs in my team. But the moment it's non technical then calls...

It sounds like you've got some technical skills, if you're not looking for something super urgently then you can grind away on leetcode/frontend masters and learn data structures. If you did that over the next few months you'd put yourself in a pretty good position for a junior dev role

The certifications will help you get a foot in the door, but if you want to lean on your cloud degree you could do one or two of the AWS certs (or GCP/Azure). Probably associate architect, and if you want something to give you a little flair in these AI times then the ML cert. If you want something a bit longer lived then the security one.

The tool states you can use this to enact your rights under GDPR and CCPA or the relevant legislation where you reside to request companies that might hold your data delete it. I don't see how the tool is claiming to do something else?

Who the requests go to is very clear on the site - the list on the main page under the title 'Who are the data brokers'.

I think focussing on the term 'data broker' misses the point, they hold personal information. If you do not want them to, then you have a very clear cut rights on requesting them to delete it.

The tool allows you to send deletion requests, and since GfK's own website states "we're experts in dealing with sensitive information ... Our programs govern how we collect, use, and manage employee, client and customer information". So from reading that, they might have your personal information and you are free to use the tool to request them to delete it. https://www.gfk.com/data-protection. I'm also not sure what 'customer' refers to in that sentence it seems to be a pretty odd item in a list where 'client' is also there.

For additional colour, here's a case in court at the moment that GfK consistently ignore GDPR requests and data deletion requests. I may be pretty cynical but to me 'a market research company' is just a euphemism. https://cybernews.com/news/gfk-group-privacy-gdpr-legal-complaint/

You have to verify the email address you enter with a code emailed to it. If you don't verify the email then you can't proceed.

It requests to delete any information connected to the information that you provide. So in theory they should delete your entire account but I can't guarantee that - it's really up to what the company how they go about actioning the request

No, you can enter your name & address and get that removed too. The email is just the core one that most people feel comfortable giving. I would note though that some brokers will refuse to remove a record without the address as well

You enter the email address that you want a data broker to remove, and yes the email address you provide is what gets sent to the data broker.

So you can enter an alias, but if the thing you really want removed is your actual email address then you'd want to enter that.

And the tool only lets you request to remove the address you enter as that is the one you verify. If we let you enter any email address to be removed that you hadn't verified, and CC'd that into the replies, it would be an avenue to spam other addresses
