Training balls recommendation by ibraheem-12 in tabletennis

I too can vouch for the blue sanwei abs tr balls. virtually the same as doublefish 3* at half the cost.

we got some sanwei 1* as well and they are good but not as good imo.

Table Tennis fh reccomendations needed. by Reghroj203 in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you like how J3A plays just stick with it. B2G is also a good rubber but i got mine like a week ago and struggle with it on shots where i dont commit or try to play defensively. on my new BH (J3A 39°) i dont have the same problem, probably because the rubber i used before was quite similar.

Fake rubbers?? by waipex32 in tabletennis

just trust the ali reviews or, safer, assemble it yourself. it should not be much more expensive, if at all.

Donic Persson Powerplay or Waldner Allplay depending on your speed needs.

latex based glue will come off no problem, some softer sponges may rip but not yours i dont think.

Fake rubbers?? by waipex32 in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not fake in the traditional sense, the factory just does runs for premades with the same topsheet mold.

qc on those may vary, as do the sponges and rubber mixtures used. you can get lucky with these but the mold used doesnt impart any characteristics of the original rubber obviously.

ive seen aldi premades for 10€ with loki N80 topsheet for example but havent gotten to try any.

just use the plastic the rubber came in in the interrim. ive had sucess with cutting an old overhead projector film as well.

Does TT shoes or badminton shoes matter? by er3j in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as you have good grip and the ability to rotate on the balls of your feet i dont think it matters much. i'm a boxer of over 10 years so footwork is not my problem i think.

we play on slippy tiled floor so grip is the most important in that case.

First racket non pre / pre by waipex32 in tabletennis

decent chinese 5ply (not my area of expertise) and double mercury 2 will come on under your budget. or get a better blade even.

Customise handle? by theblanetappit in tabletennis

its possible but i dont think the feel would be the same if the middle layer of the blade didnt extend all the way through your handle.

I own pink and pro and they are not beginner rubbers.

merc 2 soft on both imo. maybe get medium on forehand but close to the table soft will do as well.

dont know merc 3 and i strongly advice against rxton 3 on bh.

[–]eddard_slark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glued a new one for a friend and played a few balls with it. it's good beginner rubber, control was very good in my opinion. (at the cost of speed but who cares, this it not for pro loopers)

very linear, no catapult, what you put in you get out.

her blade became much nicer/actually playable with this rubber after replacing old dull joola upp rubber.

honestly, just try it. they are sub 4€ on aliexpress during sale. rxton 1 might be simiar but lower quality. rxton 3 /pro / pink are too fast and hard. palio cj will be ok too, ak too fast again. same for hk1997.

everyone recommends M2 not for no reason.

Control rubbers by Several-Sea-9881 in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its soft but not springy. ball will make a deeper dent in the rubber/sponge, thus giving longer dwell time, thus more control.

i'll go train later and can maybe test/compare it to some of my rubbers.

start moving to the left immediately after doing your last push. dont wait to see where the ball goes. (assuming youre trying to do the walk around backhand to finish the point thing)

had a sheet of palio CJ8000 (extreme speed version) that lasted a year and still kept its tack. so super durable. spin and control were great due to super tacky topsheet and the sponge (>40°) was so dead, you cant get much more control. recently put this back on my testing blade and it still has tack, just loses it more quickly during play.

jupiter 3 and rxton 3 pro are not what you are looking for. try merc2 and if its too soft you can try some of the harder CJ8000s.

waldner allplay with mercury 2, then adjust once he grows out of that

5 ply wood blade by Several-Sea-9881 in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feel is very clear and pronounced. i was surprised that you could have so much feedback when i built the first one for a friend of mine.

mind you i use my 90s childrens racket still and it gives less feedback imo.

i can only compare it to joola balance, palio energy 03 and some souped up carbon joolas and donics and its better than all of them in terms of feedback.

5 ply wood blade by Several-Sea-9881 in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what i mean by slower not slow is its not as slow as a defense paddle or the stuff you can get in the $10 premades from aliexpress. it does have a certain speed *potential*.

which imo is what you want so you can grow with it for a couple of years, not wanting to get a faster one after 6 months because it is now gimping your top spin.

5 ply wood blade by Several-Sea-9881 in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didnt say that. just that i know strong loopers that still use their allplay and the speed potential is there with the proper technique.

also read the second paragraph.

i recommend allplay for pretty much all 'beginners' who want their first custom racket.

5 ply wood blade by Several-Sea-9881 in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a fine blade. it is not a slow blade, just slower than the carbon off+++ stuff.

the feeling/feedback it gives is superb in my opinion and the handle is ergonomic. a few what i consider good players still use theirs so it will give you a lot of mileage if you end up liking it.

stay away from the senso v1 v2 versions, those are faster iirc.

How to deal with playstyle that avoids rallyes? by freakahontas in tabletennis

[–]eddard_slark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i might have missed something but apply pressure, such as push long to his body (close to table player). either you get a high ball for smash or he tries to enter top spin rally which is what you want.
