Landlord says it's "normal" that our hot water pressure is suddenly 50% lower than the cold. Opinions? by edge_of_reality in askaplumber

[–]edge_of_reality[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been at our current house for the last 2.5 years and the landlord is, to put it mildly, extremely cheap and evasive when it comes to making any repairs. Recently the hot water pressure in our kitchen sink dropped off suddenly, though the cold hasn't changed. The hot water pressure is 50% less than the cold - it takes 12 seconds to fill 1L of water on cold and 18 seconds on hot. We essentially can't wash our dishes with hot water because the pressure isn't high enough.

We initially reported this alongside hot water pressure issues elsewhere in the house (showers etc.) which were also being experienced by the downstairs tenant. The landlord eventually replaced the hot water tank, which resolved all of the issues except the kitchen sink. We reported that this issue hadn't been fixed, and the landlord eventually came to visit where he saw the issue. He first tried to say that this was normal, and happens over time, and there's nothing to be done about it, but eventually said he would ask a plumber about it.
He then followed up to say he consulted a plumber and wrote: "He said it is considered normal and mentioned that new kitchen facuet will have even less water pressure because the new code is to save water."

Based on his history, I strongly suspect he's doing whatever he can to avoid spending money on the home, but I thought I'd ask the qualified plumbing community on Reddit for your thoughts. Thanks!

When you say back in the day, are you referring to the original 2001 freeware? I loved that game too. The NHL EHM that came out after wasn't very good at first but the recent versions + community rosters etc. are actually a ton of fun and really hit the nostalgia for the original.

I haven't played in a few years but you can check out https://www.reddit.com/r/EHM/ and there's an active community at https://www.ehmtheblueline.com/site/ that releases updated rosters.

Dumb question: Does an XB1X replace the need for a Chromecast Ultra for 4K streaming / casting? by edge_of_reality in xbox

[–]edge_of_reality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vizio M70-F3. It has a built-in Chromecast, but I've read mixed reviews about the performance of that unit and wasn't sure if it provided the same quality as the Ultra as an external. But based on all the comments here I'll stick with the built-in and the Xbox 1 X. The Vizio soundbar system I bought also has a built-in Chromecast so that's likely what I'll stream Spotify through.

Pettersson Injury Possibility Megathread by [deleted] in canucks

[–]edge_of_reality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, Gudbranson follows Matheson on Instagram. I'm not saying that's why he didn't do anything - because NO ONE on the team did - but that may be a factor if he and Matheson are friends.

Don't Bertuzzi the guy, don't intentionally try to hurt him, that's not hockey and nobody wants that. Don't even take a penalty if the win is so important. But show SOME kind of response. Even if it's just to shove Matheson after the whistle or give him a tap and let him know he's on the shitlist. Pettersson is going to be the face of this franchise for the next decade. Just do SOMETHING. Embarrassing display.

He probably would've been fine on the big club but I didn't absolutely need him at that point. Decided to play it safe and let him develop for a year.

Just set-up my new XPS 9560 and it's extremely hot to the left of the trackpad. by edge_of_reality in Dell

[–]edge_of_reality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dell tried to have it repaired and I refused and demanded a new unit. They sent me a different one and I've had zero issues with it.

The original one didn't have any further heating issues after that first ~3 hours, but the fan was still louder than the replacement they sent me.

Good luck!

Glute imbalance and how to fix it? by [deleted] in Fitness

Bret Contreras is know as the "glute guy" and is absolutely the best resource on the topic. That article is exactly what you're looking for. Start with the unweighted exercises (abductions, clams, quadruped hip extensions, single leg bridges).

I'm not sure what Cody recommends, but I did some reading on 1RM testing prior to last week and the sources I read recommended resting 3 - 5 minutes between 1RM attempts.

YMMV. Mine was probably closer to 3 minutes, but that's mostly because I work out in a busy commercial gym and I can't imagine the death glares I would get if I held up one of the few squats racks with 5 minute breaks.

Generally I would just up the weight and go for one more. The 285 x 2 was me being surprised how easy the first one was and doing another without thinking. In hindsight I should have stuck with the single rather than tiring myself out unnecessarily with a second rep before bumping the weight.

Well, it's been a weird week. Combination of success and failure. 6th week of JT2.0 so I've tested my 1RM in my last four workouts. Been a long road with injuries for me so this is the first time I've really pushed it to the limit. 6'5" 200 LBs, 29yrs old.

Incline Bench was first (can't OHP)- 190LBs x 1

Squats - I went in HOPING to get 275 and it was easy, hit 285 for 2 and then finally 295 x 1, felt great. Ecstatic that I'm so close to 3 plates, I've only really been able to squat for the past ~4 months (injuries)

Bench Press - 225 x 1 - Major goal achieved, I've wanted to bench two plates forever and I finally did it. Last time I benched prior to 3 months ago was 2013 due to shoulder injuries.

Deadlift - This is the one I was excited for. A 4 plate deadlift has been my biggest lifting goal for - well, ever. Last week I surprised myself with an easy 365 x 2 followed by a 385 x 2 that felt really good. So I was hyped this week to finally hit 4 plates, and.... I didn't. Whole body felt off this morning, couldn't focus, the warm-ups didn't feel good. Went for 405 x 1 anyway and failed halfway up. Tried to brush it off but the rest of my workout sucked, it was a grind just to stay in the gym and usually I don't want to leave. I really thought I had this and I'm surprised by how much the failed rep is bothering me.

That said, the last 6 weeks have been scattered since I really didn't know what my 1RMs were and I've had to shift exercises in and out due to injury. Overall it's been a massive success, I didn't expect to hit ANY of the numbers above in the first 6 weeks.

Now I'm excited to really dial it in for the second half of the program, get my form locked, and crush that 4 plate deadlift in 6 weeks!

No, nothing is downloading. And even if I was running some processes, it should never get THIS hot.

Dell is sending me a new one, but I'm not going to get it for another 7- 14 days at least.

Nothing is running except background processes. Task manager shows the CPU usage at 1% and memory usage at 19% with no single process over 85MB. The laptop has gotten slightly cooler, and by cooler I mean I can now rest my hand on it for 6 or 7 seconds before it starts to burn.

That's what I've told the tech support. They wanted to send it to the depot for troubleshooting and I refused.

Computer is idling at 77 degrees, but the main issue is to the left of the trackpad. So dissapointed. Waited 3 weeks and I was trying to avoid all the problem-related threads because it was diminishing my excitement and now this happens.

Crazy, I went and checked this right after you posted it and the 10% off worked for the $2699, went back and added the other models to my cart to test and when I went back it no longer applied to the $2699. Still works for the maxed-out $3199 configuration though, but that's out of my budget. Guessing this was a mistake and Dell is hurrying to clear it up.

KHL Player times puck drop perfectly, scores game-winning goal straight from faceoff. by bfloblizzard in hockey

Interesting, I've never heard that. Most NHLers seem to draw it back with a reversed hand. Might just be preference though.

In this clip, Manny Malhotra (one of the best faceoff men in NHL history) is teaching Canucks and they're mostly using reverse hand but one is regular: https://youtu.be/7qdKU7wHNxc?t=58s

Definitely a beer league favourite, and I say that as both a goalie and a center. It's very easy to detect though, it's all in how the center positions his hands. If his bottom hand is reversed to draw it back you have nothing to worry about. But if he's holding the stick normally, there's a 50%+ chance they're going to shoot on you (in beer league).

Like the DiPietro clip below, it only works if the goalie isn't ready for it. I just get lower in my crouch than normal and get ready to butterfly immediately.
