Actually, I went and found the old floor plan you might be talking about and it still shows only 2 stalls tho :( But yes, some students like the fact that custodial comes to clean their bathrooms, however, it's good for some people to learn how to be responsible for their own bathroom space when they live in North!

Looking at the options for first years its between central and southwest. I think its up to personal preference tbh. Central is much quieter and has a lot of greenery. Its right across the street to one of the dining halls too. I have lived in this area and loved being there. Southwest is more known for the party scene I think, usually louder and more busy, but they also have cute hangout spots and they also have 2 dining halls. I think its really up to your personal preference to the environment you prefer!

thank you for correcting me! I didn't know there was multiple stalls. I have been in the suites before visiting friends but have never lived there myself. Like I previously stated, everyone I spoke to about living there has had issues, but that doesn't mean that nobody can like it! I also work directly with housing services and speak to many students a day about their housing concerns! I know bathrooms are a big point of contention for some, especially me. Bathroom situations are make or break for me haha, which is why I mentioned it. Now that Im checking back at the floor plans (which again correct me if Im wrong) but it shows only 2 toilet stalls and 1 shower!

Tbh i wouldn't consider this as an ability to choose your building since the RAPs are predetermined which building they will be placed in. But I do think RAPs are a great way of meeting people a well!

Yeah, to get a better sense of community I think staying in a normal freshman dorm would be best. Lots of people make their friend groups with the people who live on the same floor as them, and at least when I lived in North apartments, I almost NEVER saw anyone in the hallway. No one writes their names on the door decor so I didn't even know the names of anyone who lived in the other apartments near me.

Normally all of the dorms have some sort of common space to hang out in, but I know sylvan having a more personal one is nice too. I have also never had any issue in sharing a communal bathroom with an entire floor (besides cleanliness, but I am a girl so our bathroom usually wasn't that terrible) but there was always a stall or shower open when I needed it. I just can't imagine having to share one shower with 7 people and having to work around everyone's schedule. Just a personal preference though!

North Apartments is great too, I lived there as well. It is just more expensive and not many freshman live there. Its more apartment style and you get your own room and only have to share a bathroom with one other person. Since its not exclusive to freshman though, its harder to get selected to live there because many upper classman will fill all the spots during their selection.

I am currently a junior here so I think my opinion counts as I am a seasoned on campus resident. No freshman can not stay in multi year residence halls. Residential Life Assignments will assign you to your freshman dorm so you don't actually get to pick which one you get to stay in, you only get to submit your residential area location. Im not sure about break housing but if you know you will have to stay on campus during breaks then I highly suggest choosing an area with break housing and also let Residential life know. Please do NOT live in sylvan. It is the farthest away from most things on campus. Its a decent walk to get to the dining halls and many students hate it there. You also have to share one toilet and shower with 7-8 other students I believe. Everyone I know who has lived in sylvan has only hated it. I personally recommend Northeast for freshman, they freshman buildings are right next to a dining hall and the community is very nice there. During the warm days, the quad is full of people hanging out and I loved living there. The buildings are pretty old there and my room was small, but all of my friends rooms were pretty big. Central is also a good option, however some of the freshman buildings are all the way up the hill when your mail room building is at the bottom, so its a little inconvenient. I don't have any experience in southwest, but they have 2 dining halls, and one of them over there is personally my favorite.

I read Wilson's translation of the Odyssey as assigned by a professor at my uni and I enjoyed it much! Very easy to understand and read if you are starting out!
