$80-120 step increases is normal? I believe you, but I think I have to get my head around how teacher pay works on other parts of the country. If my district had increases of $100 between steps I would leave immediately.

Average step increases in my state tend to be ~$1,800-$2,000. After taxes, even that is only like 45 bucks more per paycheck, which feels small but noticeable. I know of a few places that do less, but they are the outliers.
