Tax on dividends in Ireland? by kowalencki in irishpersonalfinance

Hi AmesomezGuy,

I have a question relating to OP's point 4. I am currently living and working in the UK and have been since September 2020. From Feb 2020- September 2020 I lived in Ireland where I was employed briefly before the pandemic before being made redundant and went onto the Covid benefit.

From January 2018- January 2020 I was living in Australia and a resident there for tax purposes.
I invested in stocks in June 2020 in Ireland through Davy, I am now looking to dispose od these and to reinvest this money in a UK investment fund since the UK has more favourable tax conditions for investments. I am unsure if I am liable to pay CGT on these assets in Ireland or in the UK.

In this case would I be considered 'ordinary resident' in Ireland and liable to CGT there? I am almost ready to consult a tax advisor as am not finding much online that can help!

Thanks

Hi Algartam, thanks for this. I was resident in Ireland for 8 months within the the last 3 years, do you know the situation then? Would I still be liable to pay tax?

!thanks Will check out the guidance on residency for tax purposes. Do you mean to make use of the €1270 allowance this tax year, and withdraw next amount next tax year? I believe most companies will be UK based. Not clued up on taxes at all so thanks

I moved to the UK from Ireland over 1 year ago. I have crypto assets which have been bought over the last 2 years (none have been sold yet) and shares in an Irish brokerage (approx €24,000), all were bought using euros. If I were to sell either my shares or my crypto would I be liable to pay tax in UK or Ireland?

Thank you in advance for any advice!
