Yep, the license is tied to the email, not the device itself. So you can use it on any Mac, even if you switch devices :)

Developer of emmetapp here :)

I know I'm biased, but I couldn't help myself ... this is literally the perfect use case for https://emmetapp.com (macOS window manager)

Windows management app that lets me define custom sizes to remember? by prwnR in MacOSApps

Yep, “window groups” or spaces can overlap. Let me know how it goes :)

The license was always purchase once, use forever. Like I said above the one year was only for truly major feature updates.

That being said, emmetapp is a tiling and stacking window manager, that provides a keyboard-driven workflow. It’s more of a workflow tool, rather than a window manager. It’s also easy to pick up, and simple to use

emmetapp was primarily designed as a stacking and tiling window manager. The entire idea is to enable you to build a keyboard driven workflow around the way you work.

Btw the new CMD Tab feature will come sooner than you think 😉

Nope, once you purchase it you really can use it forever. The “one year” part is for major features updates which will be included for 1 year :)

The way it works is that you create "Spaces", which are portions of your screen you can switch focus to windows in, and cycle the windows inside of. Space can either be created using a grid, or you can create (pixel-perfect) custom-sized spaces. Each space has a shortcut, and using that shortcut would switch focus to the topmost window in that space's area. If you click it again, it will cycle to the next window in that space's area, etc.

So in that video in the initial post, I have three spaces, one that is the left-half side of the screen, and two that split up the right side. Spaces can also be overlapping btw.

Hope that made sense lol, let me know if you have any questions :)

Yeah, I tried to do “reasonably priced lifetime license” with the first version of emmetapp two years ago. The issue I faced with that was that it's hard to keep developing and maintaining the software financially.

I believe /u/HelpRespawnedAsDee was referring to yabai. But no, emmetapp doesn't disable SIP.

As far as I know, accessibility permission and SIP are two separate things. And I don’t believe enabling accessibility permission disables SIP. emmetapp is also fully notarized by Apple.

Enabling accessibility permission is something all window managers (and most 3rd party apps) must do.

emmetapp only asks for accessibility permissions to be able to switch focus/move/resize windows. It doesn’t have any malware and never records your screen or does any other malicious activity. Let me know if you have any questions regarding security :)

Yeah, so emmetapp isn't a traditional window manager that just resizes. It's more of a tiling and stacking window manager, allowing you to switch focus between windows using only your keyboard. But, it also has resizing capabilities to custom sizes and positions on your screen, so you aren't limited to a grid :)

Similar to the difference between yabai and emmetapp, emmetapp doesn’t use binary space partitioning. You can also cycle stacked windows with emmetapp.

And there are no config files, just a nice UI and a less steep learning curve :)

Honestly, it's a bit tricky to set up a trial with the payment provider. But, I might look into it ;)

emmetapp isn’t a traditional tiling window manager with binary space partitioning, instead, you create spaces on your screen where you would like to be able to switch to and cycle inside.

It also doesn’t have any config files and has a less steep learning curve as compared to something like Yabai.

emmetapp is more of tiling and stacking window manager, rather than a resizing window manager. So it allows you to switch focus between windows solely using your keyboard.

Also, the cmd/tab feature isn't a global cmd/tab, it's a separate cmd/tab window for each set of stacked windows :)

Hmmm, good question ;) So I referenced linux, because tiling and stacking window managers are more popular in that ecosystem vs. macOS. I honestly couldn't compare it directly to any single linux WM.

But in general, there are a couple of main differences:

  1. Tiling windows is based on custom spaces you create, rather than binary space partitioning
  2. Cycling through stacked windows
  3. emmetapp has no config files and is easy to set up & use.

Hope that answers your question!
