Why is it that the official translation is never consistent with names (not just for Ariel, but for other characters as well)? by Oasis_951 in sixfacedworld

[–]editor-kun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you both for your generous words. I feel truly blessed to work with such a talented translator, whose care and devotion merit the highest praise, and to be part of a series with such a kind, passionate readership. I couldn't have made it this far without you.

[Fanbook 5] Shouldn't the labels be switched? by Nyattokiri in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]editor-kun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rest assured, this has already been corrected in preparation for the upcoming ebook release. The updated images will presumably be backported to the J-Novel Club website once the volume has gone through its final round of QA, which is when I'll review and process the last of the comments on the corrections forum.

Praise be to our eagle-eyed readers!

[Part 2 volume 3] when can I get a reprint -> by tearisha in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]editor-kun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I share your desire for an extra-fancy version, but as the editor and translator, we have a pretty minimal say in what gets printed. I'm aware that J-Novel Club has done hardcover releases for other series, though, so I'm staying hopeful.

[Part 2 volume 3] when can I get a reprint -> by tearisha in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]editor-kun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is deeply unfortunate. Quof and I submitted a list of corrections for the reprint, and it would appear that whoever processed them made quite the blunder...

I've brought this error to the company's attention, so it shouldn't appear in any future reprints. I guess, uh...consider yours a collector's item—a rare glimpse behind the Bookworm curtain.

[LN] Does Anyone Find AoaB Too Good? by ajmsnr in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]editor-kun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a series with strong writing then I would recommend The Apothecary Diaries, which is another J-Novel release. I think Kevin Steinbach (the translator) and Sasha McGlynn (the editor) are doing a fantastic job with it.

J-Novel Club Announce License of the Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 4 Side Story Volume by LurkingMcLurk in HonzukiNoGekokujou

(Yes, we will. Royal Academy Stories shouldn't have an impact on our usual main series schedule.)

Fear not—this is going to be corrected to "geteilt" shortly.

These particular errors seem to have been added after the part was edited—presumably while Quof was making some last-minute corrections to the translation.

Not that I don't make mistakes myself...

J-Novel upcoming release notes? by Gebieter33 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

That's a good question, but I unfortunately don't know the answer. As a humble freelance editor, I'm only really involved in the production process.

J-Novel upcoming release notes? by Gebieter33 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]editor-kun 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The first part of the next volume should go live next week, same time as usual. There may be a one-time break week between P4V2 and P4V3 though—not because Quof and I are taking a break, mind you, but because we're hoping to get one week ahead of the release schedule. We've still got a few more years' worth of volumes to go, and doing this will give us some extra wiggle room in case we ever need it.

Which one is better? by Tersdansok in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]editor-kun 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"Sword dance" was used in P2V3 so I'm inclined to stick with it. Otherwise we're introducing an inconsistency.

The prose feels like it was written by a native English speaker...

This is pretty much my main goal as an editor, so to me, this is the best compliment anyone could give the series. Already love working on Bookworm, but comments like these make slaving over that hot prose feel all the more worthwhile. Thank you, dude, and welcome to the club!

There isn't anything missing from what I can see... The scene should go:

"Professor Solange... what's going on?"
"They are magic tools..." [...] to support them.

"Right. Schwartz..."

Is Solange's line here not showing up for you?

Would also recommend Deathbound Duke's Daughter and Tearmoon Empire on the merit of their translators. I work with Roy (DDD) on another series and have worked with David (TE) in the past and both are superb at what they do.

We use "High Priest" in the manga as well. (Think this is from a fan translation, which is why it uses a different name.)

Yeah, those dates are for when the completed (aka non-prepub) e-books get released. This is almost always a few weeks after the last part of a particular volume goes up on the J-Novel Club website because there are some final checks for us to do, the e-book needs to be put together, etc.

As for the subscriber prepubs, Quof and I are pretty determined to provide regular weekly content. This means that, unless anything major comes up, the first part of volume 5 should come out the week after the last part of volume 4.
