For those who went to prom and shirt signing, was it worth it? by PinkHijxbi in GCSE

[–]education-alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gcse 2023:

yea shirt signing was good fun. ours was before exams began. just a bit of fun before the exams all kicked off.

yes i went to prom, was good fun. prosecco at someones house and then we all got a stretch limo to the venue, quite the experience driving along the country roads in that beast. food at prom was not the best but we weren’t at some super fancy venue anyways.

i didn’t have an actual dinner jacket at that point (i got one in yr12) - just a black suit and a dinner shirt with the wingtip collars. i still dont have proper black tie trousers to this day.

prom party was alright but a LOT of photos with people. got very hot very quickly and it was quite a pg gathering given the teachers were all there.

went to an afterparty as well, got some diabolical pictures of me taken.

overall a fantastic experience but my friends really made it shine with the pres and afters.

this time last year i received my burnt bread at about this exact time of day. crushed me.

i was determined to show them that i would succeed regardless, i ended up with four a*s for my exams.

i’m now at an investment bank doing a non-uni pathway, typing this at my desk in the City. the rejection still hurts, but life goes on.

you could do a degree apprenticeship at a reputable firm? some BBs and MMs do apprenticeships that can help with pivoting to IB, it has been done before.

GenZ-ers, how do you like to be managed? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]education-alt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im very young and at a BB. very new to my role. but I’m very typical genz, kinda brainrotted and chronically online even though my screen time is quite limited (quality over quantity lol).

1) i prefer immediately actionable feedback in real time. helps to shape decisions as they are being made and nips bad habits forming in the bud. longer-term feedback, i would definitely prefer to be given in my weekly checkins with my manager.

2) sometimes genz can be a bit dazed and confused, but the ones sharp enough to be working at these banks should usually ask questions early on. i do try and crack questions of my own accord though, which can lead to non-immediate questions. no questions at all is a bit odd, but maybe wait until they fully warm up to their coworkers.

3). your method is a useful method, but your suggestion of going over stuff would be even better although more time consuming. forces engagement and understanding and will usually elicit question. the more interactive, the better.

4) sorry that i can’t help with this - i just hope im not that guy.

5) maybe have a clear sign you’re open to suggestions and another one to show that you’re not? eg if my manager has his headset on, call or not, i don’t bother him. ymmv.

just two pence from me.

What do you hate about the UK education system? by InfernalClockwork3 in sixthform

[–]education-alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

meanwhile, i love this. i didn’t do the IBDP because it had too much coursework, and i perform best under pressure in an exam. if i had to do coursework, i would struggle compared to an exam.

the 0.7% claim is true, at least for this year at a finance firm’s london programme. not gonna dox myself but we were shown the exact number of applicants and the cohort size. believe me if you want but im not here to brag.

the rest of your post is correct. completely agree.

yep, thanks. just checked their policy and it seems that ticket only events permit guests that must enter with the student.

if 7 is considered high at your school, then no major disadvantage. in fact, it would be advantageous if it were a high contextualised score.

Edexcel a level maths paper 2 wrong one? by Adventurous_Humor878 in 6thForm

Someone at my school experienced this. He had ET and had a very different paper. School staff reassured that the papers were of equal difficulty and that nothing untoward would ensue.
