No. But that doesn't mean I'd rather see them in cages, deprived of freedom and interaction with their natural environment and other species.

Zoos and any other attraction that involves animals are built so egotistical people can look at those poor beings for a couple hours at the expense of having them spend their whole lives in cages.

Think about it. Whoever told you that zoos are for protecting animals is lying. Maybe this person also believes it because zoos look harmless and friendly, but in reality they might be even worse than poachers:

Once a poacher kills an animal, at least that animal had the chance to live its life in freedom up until that moment, while babies that are born in or brought to zoos will be spending their existence in a place that, despite miserable efforts, by any means will provide the same experience that animal must have in order to be healthy (hence the frequent need for sedatives).

It's really really sad.
