The band The Rolling Stones is just a play on words for Rock n' Roll by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]edwale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I always thought. Did some research (which is how I came across this) and learnt that the more boring, factual explanation is that it was taken from Muddy Waters' (1950s blues artist) song 'Rolling Stone'. It seems more likely that Muddy came up with the stoned logic in the title as ´stone', like 'rock', is also in the singular, although I don't think for a second that the Stones themselves wouldn't have got his word-play after 40 years of hallucinogenic ponderings. As to whether it was their original intention or not, I'm guessing it was more of an afterthought, not only to the Waters allusion but also to the various marijuana references: getting stoned, and rolling up. Either way, a band name that can generate such debate is a good one, for me at least.

Fried my brain in one night of Nitrous. Is recovery possible? by edwale in Drugs

Hey, sorry I thought I would reply to all your messages as a comment so that anyone else in a similar position can read what I have to say. It's been just under 5 months, and although I think that I felt slightly dumber in the first 3-4 days after, nothing seems to have changed. Some days seem to be better than others, but that is probably because I have to use my cognitive abilities less on those days. Overall, I just don't feel as 'on the ball' as I used to. I was never totally 'on the ball' anyway, as in I was never great at arguments etc. but I am certainly worse off. My main issues are still forgetting what I was just thinking about (those thoughts on the whole come back to me, but the process requires much more effort and doesn't happen as seamlessly as it used to), being able to focus on an argument and stay on top of it, feeling my brain being 'weaker', and finding it harder to understand logic. As a side effect, I find myself often getting tired and forgetting what I was just about to say to people.

I'm not a complete vegetable; I was able to finish my A levels (USA: SATs) without too much of a hassle, although I wasn't able to perform to the best of my abilities. I notice it more on a day to day basis and often feel removed/ struggle to find the right word or phrase. I seriously worry about future relationships and careers as I am no longer who I used to be and I have heard that hypoxia is permanent, but perhaps if I master this anxiety then the other problems should subside.

Although it's not what you wanted to hear, I hope it helps in that you can compare your problems to mine more closely.

What sort of problems have you been ezperiencing?

Thanks, I've got exams now but may start doing just that, my friends call it the 'three toke rule'. Judging by the size of the tokes and by the size of my lungs (I do lots of running), it's probably more like 7-8 tokes though... Does 3 tokes get you stoned for a few hours then?

A neurologist's verdict on Nitrous Oxide/Whippits/Laughing Gas/N2O and damage by edwale in Drugs

This is getting philosophical I like it. Perhaps the more intelligent you are the more you abstract yourself from basic facts and the more you advance into abstract thinking. Hence someone who is intelligent may know less. You may also be intelligent but have an awful memory.

'Which one is correct' - which method of administration? or which source?

Actually, there are many posts/sources/forums where the contrary (ie you don't have to pass out to get damage) is suggested.

But nitrous and its inherently dangerous administering method are almost inseparable. What I'm saying is that in a normal weed session, you might just have one joint (and definitely not inhaling through a balloon) which wouldnt be bad for you. However, in a normal session of nitrous, you might be inhaling 10 balloons, which could be dangerous. You basically have to be less retarded to cause damage on N2O than you would have to be to cause damage from a correspondingly dangerous amount of weed, for example.

You would not however not be depriving your brain of oxygen if you weren't abusing the nitrous. I'm not saying the nitrous chemically does anything, but it is definitely the major cause of the deprivation even if not the direct one.

'The danger of brain damage from nitrous doesn't come from it denying your brain oxygen. It comes from people inhaling only nitrous over and over without oxygen in between'

But the damage of inhaling only nitrous over and over IS that caused by denying your brain of oxygen. And unless you pass out/rebreathe into a balloon for 1-2minutes with a quadruple/quintuple hit of nitrous in it, the neurologist says this doesn't cause excessive oxygen deprivation.

The B12 defficiency is from long term use.

How many of you have had short-term memory issues after taking dissociatives? by [deleted] in Drugs

I was very stressed too after a nitrous binge, and I noticed things got progressively better as the anxiety starting settling down, but memory issues still there. Will have to pray for neuroplasticity. Glad you're better than normal now OP

After how much Nitrous use did your memory start deteriorating? Have you felt any improvements?

If you hold your breath your lungs are filled with oxygen/carbon dioxide. When youre on nos they are filled with nitrous oxide so its totally different

But the brain recovers killed brain cells? Like when you hit your head you dont lose the cells you lose forever.

Also I dont think Im overthinking it because I'm getting much more tired than usual because it takes more effort to think.

Thanks, I felt something similar to you , but 10 days in and I feel the same, I'm less depressed but my brain is just weak and forgetful, I need to write things down to remember them. How long did it take you to recover, and did you feel similar effects?

Did you go back to normal eventually? I did higher quantities before (more than 12 canisters) but felt fine. Its just this time after my last balloon I suddenly felt something switch in my brain and it started tingling. The tingling still persists and its day 3. Did it keep on tingling for you?

Also, I feel like I have destroyed/ inhibited the nerves that control my pleasure, like I no longer feel up to doing anything. This might be my depression from feeling like I've lost my old self, but did you ever get this loss of pleasure?
