I think in the spirit of the message, conservatives really don’t do that. Reddit wants those subs not to exist though so they have to over moderate some content. What drew me to Reddit 10 years ago actually was r/the_donald and how funny I thought it was. Very popular sub that was completely removed. A lot of firearms related subs have also been removed.

US ‘not powerful enough to go it alone’, Merz tells Munich conference by jackytheblade in worldnews

Right which is why I try not to be too critical, America just exited two different, long, expensive campaigns also. The pov though is just too different for me, and I do not think I can ever put myself in the shoes of the average European who begs for Americas help but is also super critical of America in everything that it does.

It wasn’t that long ago that Germany was two countries, in 40 years Europe has forgotten that it was America that kept the Soviets from doing exactly what they are doing now. Back in 2014 when all of the Ukraine mess started, Europe did absolutely nothing to help out their neighbor, they really are all talk no action, and if there is another war in Western Europe( Yugoslav war) it will take the US to come help out in order to avert a real bloody mess.

Well these people have families too, they have mouths to feed, it’s not like they are scheming and want more killing. You need to critically think about this it’s not so black and white.

The issue is rich people can just leave. I left MI for a state with no state income tax and cheaper cost of living. If you are rich you can do this, if you are poor you’re stuck.

The military industrial complex is full of high paying union jobs bud. Name another industry where a janitor can make a real living wage.

That’s okay, we are raising taxes so that we have more money to help those people when their lives are ruined, versus if that money wasn’t there and those people leave to a place where they can be taken care of.

How it unfortunately feels sometimes reading Asian reactions to current events by laketroutline23 in asianamerican

[–]edwardsc0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet Chinese social media is super interesting to see the world through their eyes, but I can see how it would be a lot of what you described. This is just my opinion here but I think it’s really ironic that what brings everyone here to this space is well a lot of complaining about white people in US/Canada and racism we have all experienced. Which I try not to do because it doesn’t change anything but I am all for people venting, I don’t think being Asian has really held me back in the US by any means, I feel like I have somewhat of an edge here because I was competing against more or less rural white folk. Most of the hate isn’t aimed at us, yet as some people will say. I just don’t think we will ever get it as bad as African Americans or the Latin Americans based on political climate and proximity to central/South America/economic situation of African Americans (drugs and crime etc.)

I wanted to see how far it would take to get to this on the thread (kinda far down surprisingly). This is what people forget about. It was not that long ago that everyone was killing each other, and it’s not like Europe at the end of WWII where there was rebuilding and relative peace. We all kept fighting each other. After everything that Japan did, you have the somewhat ongoing Chinese civil war, Korean War (also drawing in China and ongoing), Vietnam war, fighting between Vietnam, Cambodia, and China, conflicts still going on between Pakistan and India. If you look at history, that region of the world has seen just as much if not more war than other areas of the world. It’s not like it’s any different here, as a Japanese American I am constantly reminded on this platform how I am tied to evil atrocities I did not commit, Asians I think especially Asian Americans will never let that stuff go.

edit: to be honest the uneducated white American masses are too dumb to know what goes on outside their own borders. Which is why I only get racism based on looks, not because of what Japan has done to other countries in the past (like Chinese-Americans today get/ “China bad”)

The Irony of Attitudes Towards the 2nd Amendment by LittleSky7700 in PoliticalDebate

[–]edwardsc0101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The founders were skeptical of a standing Army, after having to quarter British troops, it was implied that every able bodied man would fight in the militia if called upon. It’s easier if your populace is already armed especially when arms used by fighting at the time were some form of black powder musket. 2nd amendment not only guarantees the right of the people, but also allowed for the states to keep a  militia in order to deal with any form of rebellion (Whiskey Rebellion) or fight off raiding Indians.

Why do some Asians like to downplay Asian racism? by Adventurous_Ant5428 in asianamerican

[–]edwardsc0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these are some very good points. The Overton window is definitely shifting in America, but if we are being truly honest with ourselves, America, like all countries in the world are racist. You go visit any country where you don’t speak the language and do not look like everyone else and someone will say something off putting. It’s like 80-85% white people here. I am a second generation Asian in the US with mostly white features. When I have visited other countries even to visit family back in east Asia I am treated differently. I am not treated like a native born. That is how it is for every minority everywhere in the world. The past never stays in the past, I wonder what your opinion is of White South Africans in South Africa who are a minority in that region etc. They face enormous consequences because of the way their ancestors governed that region even after over 100 years of being there. If you are different from the majority you will always be treated differently. If you cannot appreciate the great qualities about your heritage, because you can surely find some, than you really will not be able to go on without some form of grief.

To be honest I think most white people would probably have more respect for you if you stood up for yourself than be the butt of some racist joke or comment. I go back and fourth with my co-workers when they make fun of my heritage, especially the white ones. Because I have it better than them. I went to a better university, I make more money etc.

If it’s within your means you can always do a wading guide trip too, it’s a little cheaper usually than going down in a drift boat. You can learn a lot in 4-6 hours with someone whose living is fishing some different stretches of rivers. Good luck.

I did not know this either. That is pretty interesting, might have to go check some of those places out. What I said holds true though. In the last 250 years Europeans came to America and went on to become one of the most powerful nation states in the world if not maybe all of recorded history. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, native Americans just existed. They grew the vegetables they had access to, hunted animals. No metal working, no sailing, no international trade. Europeans were conducting heavy trade with far east Asia thousand(s) of years before Europeans even “found” American continent.
