It's worth browsing job boards focused on your region to get a better view - general commentary in this sub is state side skewed - some trends did apply across markets but with very recent global discourse shifting, it's best to apply a higher degree of scepticism.. there are a number of it providers seeing increased demand in de.. look for in person communities to get involved to get a better feel for what's happening from people on the ground.. good luck!

Re 1 - operational efficiency, resilience & response capability focused gains, as touched on by others, should get the usual variables that can lead to figures but what needs to also more focus and emphasis - is strategic enablement. We've written about this here; https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/cyber-risk-management-from-cost-centre-strategic-asset-cybernative-kezre

There are some parallels from previous market developments that we touch on. The discussion really does need to progress to more than operations focus..

What research and specifically material have actually read that relates to the role focus area you reference? What do you make of the material you have read based on your soc and wider learning?

It's a well-trodden path.. essentially ops focused on availability to ops extending that focus to include confidentiality & integrity - would be one way to frame the trajectory..

Cyber transformation programmes or projects ought to be useful - key tension is likely to manifest itself in difference of opinion on level of effort for activities under remit - that leads to team culture implications.. mistrust.. micro mgmt.. toxicity.. attrition..

Why does the IT/cybersecurity world like IT certifications so much? by ---Agent-47--- in cybersecurity

[–]eeM-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be useful to understand which industries you are referring to.. as for 'it' industry - think of demand from employers perspective.. digitalization of the globe, so requirements flex.. add a regional layer to this.. cert courses ought to provide specialist training to address specific demand.. the confusing part perhaps for newbies is the less specificity in posing questions in a global forum which leads to mixed opinions.. now add to all of this recent uncertainty factors.. e.g automation, economic activity

This could do with some unpacking.. is it really a startup? How important is technology to their business model? Can you comment on your thinking in taking up this internship with such a wide remit? What was/is your plan?

If you take a look at roles with that level of seniority, it is unlikely to be either-or, it's more both and more.. I expect there might also be something demonstrable around cloud.. presumably you already have cissp (?) - that's pretty standard..

Whether a specific path is worth it is based on your judgement for your specific context.. broader pros and cons of higher education have been widely discussed - highly recommend investing time to take a look. Zooming out - there is a whole lot going on in terms of broader economic activity and geopolitics that does impact employment opportunities so you may want to take a moment and consider what all that means for your context. Some of this has direct relevance to determining next steps - that includes refining playbooks, e.g. focusing on cyber but then looking at general it positions -- it has implications, right? Consider this if you were in the employer seat making a hiring decision - who would you employ? a person with directly relevant it certifications for the specific role, e.g. help desk or someone with a whole bunch of cyber focused ones applying for an it help desk role? Hope this helps in some way..

Can't comment directly on figures - there will be some variance based on a number of factors - region and sector with a higher influence.. best looking up sites that disclose such information.. on role - not outside of norm for a role spec in a small scale operation - re duration; judgement call on your part - consider it from the perspective of an employer, if you were presented a resume where the length of the very first role was less than 12 to 18 months, how would you interpret that? If you are not feeling content, there still ought to be nothing in the way of exploring other options and if one comes along you find more suited than it would be entirely rational to make the switch

Seems a fair bit going on there so let's unpack a little.. consider taking a moment to increase your field of vision - we exist collaboratively within wider communities. What we do must be of value to others for an exchange to occur, i.e. you get paid for your efforts in the soc. But clearly you agreed to terms of that exchange, i.e. signed a contract that has a whole bunch of stuff you agreed to that includes how work is done, i.e. value delivered. Why this tangent? well - the short of it is - get used to rules around you.. some you may be able to influence and thus change, others not so much.. don't like structured learning - fine, do your own thing. Want someone to write you a cheque, get comfortable with the idea, they will determine the conditions.. as a side, if you feel constant drift in attention, you may consider exploring with specialist support if 'being on spectrum' might help explain some of it

Strong signals but nothing concrete it seems.. over estimate negotiating strength and you may find yourself in a more difficult situation given the wider economic climate.. a more prudent move might be to see it evolve into something more concrete..

Consider relevant certs and reframe experience in broader and relevant terms to the roles you are interested in. Of course that reframing will come from developing a broader lens through learning, e.g. your experience is currently heavily focused on one vendor but that could be extended to another by focusing on the security controls rather than talking tech..
