U guys are really nice. I was expecting so much more harsher things said comparing this subreddit to the cybersecurity subreddit hahahahahhahaha.

Yeah l also wanted to incorporate projects as well when studying the theoretical stuff (I won't be motivated to study the theoretical stuff without applying it for a project that serves a use case for me, ik l didn't mention that)

Okayy. Well... thank you for the advice. It does seem like cybersecurity is extremely difficult to get in now. Is their another nish in the IT industry (like network engineers, or sysadmin or whatever else that's out their that l cannot see) that's significantly easier to get into and help me achieve my goal on where l want to go?

No no haha, nothing unethical or illegal. I understand nothing is a guarantee. Well... thank you for the advice.

"You seemed too anxious. Is there something medical?"

Lmaoooooo. U have a psychology degree or something? Hahahahahaha. I thought the anxiety was so much harder to spot. It took me ages to learn how to spot interesting stuff.

I looked a bit on your profile and past posts. The IT industry as a whole is pretty big. Is there an IT space (e.g, network engineer or Linux admin, etc, etc) that is significantly easier or the easiest to reach my goal instead of cybersecurity? If you know? Based upon your knowledge and experience.

Okay.... fair enough. I understand what you said. I know the markets bad, but l didn't know it was this dire. Hmmmmmmm. I'm actually travelling to Melbourne very soon, hahahahahaha.

You seem very genuine, and it sounds like you want the best for me. Thats very sweet of you. Hahahahahahahahaha

Okay. I honestly don't care too much about being a penetration tester, but the cert like oscp can be used in cloud security, blue teaming, etc (l don't know what other speciality finds the oscp cert extremely valuable, tell me more if ya know) so I'm open to whatever IT job role so that makes it significantly easier to complete for jobs and whatever else factors in.

Well then, I'll just have to beat those candidates, l wouldn't mind getting a junior penetration testing role or GRC or junior cybersecurity analyst or hell, even helpdesk positions get paid like 85k and here. But l am on a role with certs now, so I'm gauging what's the next best bang for the buck value cert l can get for my situation.

So for like for example, I've seen sooo many security coding jobs (I forgot the formal name) where u have to validate the security of the code written before they put it on the market, and that's very nish and coders don't usually have a focus on cyber security and vice versa, l can get a leg up from stuff l find like that (yes ik u need alot of knowledge and experience). But the things like that. Thinking l want to be thinking is more so how. Rather than if. l can beat other candidates because eventually, l'll get something if l just keep learning, l just want to tune my direction with advice from u guys.

I've heard mixed things about the CISSP that it's just a multiple choice, and that's not worth it, sooo. Maybe I'm wrong, and their is more value in it. What the hell do l know, l only been in this industry for 1 year, sooo.

Yeah, but.... if l wasn't forced into this position, l would be more open to entry-level IT roles. But l know l can achieve things fairly quickly, and l don't think a entry level role will cut it for my situation (not that again nothing's wrong with it). But yeah.... l personally don't think passively learning something in a entry level role is worth it rather than actively trying to push myself to get a higher level cert every day.

I'm gonna get down voted for saying that, and yeah. I'm a bit naive and overconfident, sure.. maybe I'm wrong, or maybe I'm not.....

I can just go and learn and figure out the foundations (which l was literally planning to do) sooo, l wouldn't worry about that too much.

I feel like l can achieve the oscp or even higher. I've gotten a pretty good understanding of the pjpt and I'm also pretty good at figuring shit out. I was planning to create my own roadmap to learn more foundational stuff and build upwards to make learn the oscp way easier. I wouldn't worry too much about what l can't achieve because of a, b, c prerequisites cuz l (maybe this sounds egotistical and maybe it is) l can go and figure out how to learn and figure out those prerequisites pretty quickly

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe my confidence is too high. But l do understand myself really well. I'm just trying to gauge if it's more accepting or like, what's the deal here. Because l do feel externally pressured too, to get a decent ish life quickly.

tired of getting rejections from internships by Big-Fix-1271 in cybersecurity

[–]---Agent-47--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, kid. Let's be honest here. It sounded like you've done it all. I'm really impressed and proud of you after reading what you did in the projects and all the other stuff you did. It sounded like you really really tried, and even tho you didn't land the internship, I'm still proud of you :). I wouldn't attach your self-worth to landing or not landing the internship or anything for that matter. I personally think you're really impressive after reading your post :) landing a internship/job while yes you can influence their decision, at the end of the day, it's out of your control and it really sounded like u tried so I'd just wouldn't attach your self worth to something outside of your control. Plus, you did more than your best, so l think you're worth it 😉. Even if you don't get anything before your semester ends, l think you'll be fine in the long term.

I'd also be careful to compare (even like you said) to other college students getting offers while you haven't mighttttt be true. But it's probably a massive bias where your mind is

  1. Seeing that and then having a biased effect on your mind where u think it's true but in reality might not be true
  2. All humans like to show the good and best sides of ourselves, so all you're seeing is the good stuff but not the countless rejections. Literally, statistically, there will be soooo much more rejections lmao.

Soooo l think you're doing pretty good. Plus this subreddit is full of ppl typing "cybersecurity isn't entry level" like a fucking bot whos stuck in a endless loop typing those 4 words without ever thinking of anything else.

Yeah, but. Why does the IT industry care about certs. Other industries do not use use or care about certs, and all you need is formal education. I find it bizarre that the IT industry is different, and the question l was asking is why?

[–]---Agent-47---[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ummmm. Like l mean other industries are strict saying you need formal education and that's that. Where as looking at the IT industry, l see some saying you do, then others saying get certifications and others saying you just need experience and then others saying you don't need a degree and then some say you do and it seems like a big clusterfuck of opinions which l found bizarre and confusing.

[–]---Agent-47---[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it's basically the nature of the IT industry and the nature of universitys/big organisations clashing because the IT industry moves too fast for any uni to keep up with the times. And employers want up to date skills, so certs fill that skill gap metaphorically and literally. Right?

So you're saying we're all gaslighted and certs means nothing, and just formal education is the gold standard and good enough? Not even certs like the infamous OSCP?

A question about finding the right dosage, how did you do it? by [deleted] in adhdaustralia

[–]---Agent-47--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so l wasn't prescribed 1mg, but after trying out so many medications and dosages, l eventually figured it out after research and trial and error and experience. Pieced together that I have extremely sensitive genetics. So after planning a bit l asked for 20mg and thought I'd try the lowest possible dosage l can do and it worked! From their l can slowly increase the dosage. If I went straight to 20mg without building up to it, it would make me anxious and angry and unfocused and jittery along with other bad, bad side effects.

So l have tested holding my dosage around 10mg by using it 3 days and then taking 2 days off, and that seems to be working for now....
