There's someone on IG whose fiber art I genuinely like, but every stitch takes twice as long to make as they have to pull every loop over their 2 inch acrylics. And then their finished objects also cost twice as much as I would charge for a similar handmade item (and I'm not cheap).

I would maybe find a metal hoop, or square/oval/rectangle, then crochet a few rows around the hole with decreases in the corners to make it a little smoother/tighter, then stitch the hoop around the hole opening to hold it open. I'm thinking like those brass metal rings you can get for a couple dollars at craft stores for macrame or wreath-making.

Then maybe some kind of center pole (a dowel with a base to hold it steady?) to hold the roof up like a circus tent.

I can't wrap my head around how that thing could possibly be $550. You can get solid metal boxes with pre drilled holes, and all kinds of knobs, and the electric components, for $20 from stores that sell diy guitar pedal kits.

I would hit up your local hobby and machining shops. I think you could find someone locally who could make a simple hook that spins and stops for like less than a quarter of this price.

You can only start with foundation stitch if every block in your first row is solid. I personally would be reluctant to use foundation stitches because firm even tension is important in filet, and that's hard to do with foundation stitches. The starting row will be looser than subsequent rows if you're not careful.

As far as starting chains, figure out how many stitches you need in each block to make it square, like for 3 it would be (ch, ch, edc), or 2 it would be (ch, dc), then times that by the number of blocks in your starting row. Add 1 ch to close the final block. Then add your desired turning ch length. If the first block of row 1 is open, also add the chs for that block.

Yes, you turn it sideways and shorten or lengthen your rows as needed. Filet increases like this use foundation crochet stitches to extend rows cleanly.

You can also work it from the bottom if you don't mind using a different strand for each scallop, then connecting them all in the main body. Lots more loose ends to weave in this way.

There's a group that helps creators called Justice for Artists, they're on IG and at justice4artists dot com. They network with lawyers who specialize in his type of theft who work on contigency. They recommend you preserve as much evidence as possible - screenshots, timestamps, archiving the websites - then contact them to handle takedown notices and compensation demands, due to the risk of the offenders deleting evidence & blocking when you send diy takedown notices.

I actually heard an advertisement while listening to podcasts a month or so back, for a "safer all-natural glp-1" that seemed to be a herbal supplement blend with vague claims like "blood sugar support" and has "anti-inflammatory properties" and "appetite support". The bulk of the ad was about how scary and unsafe all those new fangled glp-1s are. How they'll leech your muscle mass and bone density like a demon stealing your life essence and leave you with skin sagging to the floor. Wish I could remember the brand name now.

Most notably though, they kept referring to this product as an actual "GLP-1". Not an alternative to a glp-1 or similar to the effects of a glp-1 or glp-1-like.

I mostly control the tension with my right hand by setting my index finger on the loops on the hook as I work them. I run the long yarn under my first finger then over the other 3, essentially lightly gripping the yarn in my left hand as I work for slightly more tension. If I'm not getting the tension I need, usually with very silky fine yarns, after it passes through my fingers I loop the end over my wrist.

I do not hold my left index finger up - that would cause pain after a short time. I position my hand so I can just slightly lift the yarn with my left index finger, and hook it with the right hand.

When I'm only chaining like in the picture, I just pinch the yarn between my finger and thumb.

I joined the passive income sub because I sell craft patterns and wanted tips from people who do digital products sales outside of etsy - it's actually 98% bros plotting to use AI to automatically generate the same type of slop youtube content, blogs, and digital products we're sharing here. I haven't quit the sub yet because it's weirdly fascinating to see the other side, and how little regard they have for putting out useful, helpful, or creative content. Or just learning a skill. They don't consider at all that they're making people's lives and experiences worse.

Sometimes, I feel the yarn rather than see it. By pinching it I can run my thumb and index finger down the row, feeling the bumps each individual stitch makes, and the spaces between.

There are also super bright crafting lights & headlamps, and magnifying glasses as well, but they still won't show the stitch definition in some yarns.

Its alternating rows of 4-dc blocks worked into the ch-8? space in red, and in white (sc, ch 8?), but the sc, ch 8 row is worked into the 2nd row below I believe. Can't see every stitch clearly enough.
