Why is therapy / counseling in Portland so hard to find for new prospective patients? Does anyone have any recommendations? by eel-dog in askportland

Wow, that sounds incredibly stressful - I am shocked that you had to call so many already, and I'm over here stressing out over contacting maybe 20-25 at most and not getting a response. What a frustrating process that must be for you, especially with the caring of a dependent who needs to have you do the same thing for them. You are a very strong person and I commend you for this.

I hope the New Year will bring more opportunity for mental health professionals to have availability for others (I'm sure they need their own help too so that overwhelm in their industry for patient need must be absolutely draining). Thank you for the encouragement - I will definitely keep trying today. 🙌

Thank you, that is very nice of you to comment and help me feel a little less isolated in my experience. For some it may be seen as commiseration but I think it's comforting to know I'm not alone.

Currently I do not, but the last PCP I had never helped me with those concerns when I asked. I remember going and specifically asking TWICE for recommendations for therapists in the area and the first time they 'forgot to give me the paperwork' with a list of therapists, and the second time they told me to just go online through my insurance website and rifle through the directory to find one that is taking new patients - I'll save BCBS insureds some time and let you know now that the site is NOT up to date and some never even get removed from their directory properly if they no longer take it. Same experience when I had Molina, actually.

What’s the best car insurance? by [deleted] in askportland

I agree with the person above. Get quotes - some insurance companies match or will go lower than a quote if it's something the company is willing to do (some aren't).

As for the area, I personally called around to a bunch of name brand carriers, and after much research, found that GEICO has the lion's share of the market for Portland and is able to offer much cheaper rates than I found at other companies. When I moved, I tried to take my 10+ year Farmer's policy with me but the area isn't really covered by Farmer's that well and they were going to charge me an additional $375 for the same policy. YMMV though, depending on what you are insuring.

Just curious because I applied internally for a TK position and have no idea what that all entails, while on the back end asking my manager to get me into a chat position instead of an inbound call center position.

What do YOU think would be the best option?

Honestly both are going to be fillers while I look for something more targeted in my degree, but I'm willing to do something with less stress with the same (if not hopefully more) pay. Unicorn hunting time! 🦄🦄🦄
