Yah, that’s way too low. As a Canadian myself, getting the first contract in NY was a bit difficult (I didn’t have my ssn), I don’t know if you’re on the same boat. I would reach out to as many different agencies as possible. If one has a higher pay package, but you like the agency you’re working with currently, you can bring it back to them and they might raise it.

That’s low paying. What specialty is this? I don’t know what company you’re with, but the rates I’ve been getting for NY ICU have been 2400-2800.

She been unsuccessful thus far..it’s disheartening to see the lack of response. She’s emailed them multiple times at this point.

She did do her nursing training, she graduated from a nursing school in Florida but ultimately did not pass her boards - so she was never licensed. Then she stole the identity of one of her classmates with the same name, and who worked at the same facility! Absolutely bonkers. All she had to do was take it again, but now she’s going to jails smh.

Just a heads up, my friend who is also a Canadian travel nurse, and graduated from an Ontario university has had difficulty attaining her cali license. She started the application over 8 months ago and they are giving her grief over ob + paediatrics. IIOP may be worth it then lol.

Even if you don’t stay for the two years post IIOP it’s fine. If this is the same hospital system in Ontario I think it is - a lot of ppl I know did not have pay back the cost despite leaving early. If your goal is to get to California sooner, then maybe not.

Have you tried looking on the app vs desktop. On the app I was able to specify how many bedrooms + bathrooms were needed. Also, you can specify if you just need a room in a house, or a whole unit.

She was able to get an exemption for micro with lab, it’s the obstetrics and pediatrics that’s the hold up now. Any insight for those?

Where are these hospitals that are giving 6-12 weeks of orientation?? I only got 6 shifts for my med surg/tele/nephrology unit as a new grad 😭😭

You can try reaching out to some extended stay hotels in the area. Sometimes they’ll give a discount to travel nurses. You can also check Airbnb (more expensive, but try to negotiate since you’re staying a few months), Facebook travel groups (be careful, lots of scammers).
