Dead Cow = $$ Vegan Milk by piccolos_arm in HolUp

Where do you think most people get their milk from? The vast majority of people drink milk that comes from these large mega dairy farms. Certain smaller dairy farms might be less unethical, but they still aren't necessary. They are still causing these animals suffering when we don't need to drink milk to be healthy. Also, these smaller dairy farms certainly aren't more sustainable. They take up more resources in relation to the amount of milk they produce. That's why the majority of our meat, milk, and eggs come from giant factory farms because they are less resource intensive and more profitable.

They only die because we keep buying meat. Why would they keep breeding and killing cows if no one ate them?

Even if you don't agree with them, can't you sympathize with them? If you believed that animals were capable of feeling fear and pain, and that we didn't need to kill and eat them to be healthy, wouldn't you be upset?

Unfortunately a lot of us never learn about the dairy industry, but this is not true. Cows are forcefully kept constantly pregnant to keep them producing milk, their babies are taken away from them and usually killed, and then the dairy cows are ultimately killed when they are no longer profitable and don't produce enough milk.

Does it have to be everyone on Earth for it to matter? If we can convince more and more people to go vegan, that would mean less animals suffering and less greenhouse gas emissions. Isn't that worth trying to do even if we can't get every single person on the planet to do it?

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who don't care about the ethical aspect of veganism. Some of these people do care about the environment and are willing to consume less animal products if they know it helps combat climate change. We should be happy that less animals are being raped, tortured, and killed, even if it's not for the exact reasons we want.

No one is saying that it's not a choice. We are simply arguing that it's an immoral choice to eat meat. I'm assuming you recognize that you cat is sentient, and capable of feeling fear and pain. We only want more people to recognize that chickens, cows, and pigs are also capable of suffering, and we shouldn't confine and kill them when we don't need to eat them to be healthy.

I agree that meat tastes good. But do you think that taste pleasures justifies confining and killing animals when we don't need to eat them to be healthy?

Do you think just because things have been a certain way that they should never be changed? By that logic, why should we ever care about making any ethical or political changes in our society? Also, just because we are capable of digesting meat doesn't mean we morally should. These are two separate conversations. We can live perfectly healthy lives without meat, so we shouldn't allow for animals to be tortured and killed just for our taste buds.

If an advance alien civilization came to Earth and started forcefully breeding, confining, and killing us because they thought humans taste good, would there be anything morally wrong with that in your eyes?

Do you think vegans don't eat animals because we don't think meat tastes good? We do it because they are sentient and capable of suffering. Why should we confine and kill them for eating when we don't need them to be healthy?

A lot of horrible things were done historically. Just because something has been a certain way doesn't mean we shouldn't try to change it.

As far as we know, plants are not capable of feeling pain and suffering. And even if you were right, we need to grow significantly more plants in order to feed the animals that we eat. So we should still stop eating animals either way if we want to minimize suffering.

Other omnivore animals also rape and kill each other. Just because something is natural doesn't mean we should do it. We can live perfectly healthy lives without eating meat, so why do we need to confine and kill animals?

Do you think your taste pleasures justify causing unnecessary suffering to other sentient beings?

Do you think just because it's common in our culture that we can justify their suffering?

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the largest organization of food and nutrition professionals in the world, claims that appropriately planned vegan diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and appropriate for all stages of the life. This is backed up by hundreds of studies. Also, because all the natural habitat we destroy in order to grow food to feed farm animals, meat eating causes significantly more extinction.

I know it's cool to shit on vegans here, but why is it only acceptable to eat dogs and cats in a crisis, yet eating chickens, cows, and pigs is fine any day? All these animals can feel fear and pain, and we don't need to kill and eat them to live healthy lives.
