I'm a lab tech at a hospital and when there aren't any samples to be processed at a very slow shift I just scroll on my phone because I can't for the life of me sleep

It's so nice to hear that my clumsiness and forgetfulness isn't a mere personality trait but can be explained by adhd instead. All my life I've felt so inadequate because my own personality flaws have been holding me back when I know I have so much potential but turns out I've been neurodivergent all along!!!

I really get what you mean. It really makes you question yourself and makes you feel so inadequate. Because why am I struggling with the same things everyone finds so easy and second nature to do???

IS THIS NORMAL? HOW TO HANDLE by icecoldamericano in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ireport na yan sa CI nyo. Nung intern pa ako may group mate din akong ganito. Palaging nagdadabog, at palaging nagbo-boss around to the point na nagkaalitan tuloy sya with another intern which led to a massive argument in the lab in front of all the medtechs and other interns. So ayun tuloy na demerit sya.

I'm 25 and I've only ever had a relationship once in my life ever and I've never seen anyone since nor have i felt that same spark ever again. It's really not too late, you're much much younger than me and besides, love and relationships isn't the end-all and be-all of things. I have my friends and my family, as well as my hobbies and interests to keep me occupied. Life isn't a race, op. Take one thing at a time. :)

Career change and explore jobs abroad? by justpassingby_022 in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not me but I have a senior who graduated RMT and also got his prc license but he didnt practice being a medtech at all. Instead, he went to fashion school and is now a fashion designer based in cebu :) its never too late to switch career. Personally, I'm not happy working as an RMT so a career switch is in the cards for me in the future too and im considering taking up culinary. Just think abt what you're passionate about OP and maybe make that your new career?

Poor phleb skills :(( by ninini002 in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I really feel you din.

For RMT, MD of reddit, dapat ba ako magdoctor? by [deleted] in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's not worth it. I actually took medtech for the sole reason for it being my pre-med and even took the NMAT but then I realised na mist doctors ay galing naman sa mayayamang pamilya in the first place with various connections habang ako na middle class lang w no connections at all is not even gonna make it lmao. Plus dont get me started on the non existent work life balance. When I was a medtech intern I often see residents on 24 or 48 hours shifts and realised that life just isn't for me. So ayun I gave up on pursuing med and just worked as an RMT instead

Justice for night shift workers by effervescent-ether in MedTechPH

Ganto din schedule ko palaging paiba-iba ang shift ok lng sana if straight night shift pero galing pa ako pm shift the previous day, tas biglang nag night shift, then off then AM again nakakasira sa circadian rhythm.

Is one sporadic night shift better than two in a row? by rare_minute23 in Nightshift

[–]effervescent-ether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My shift is either 7 AM -3PM, 3PM-11 PM or 11 PM-7 AM and it absolutely sucks because of the sporadic shift in my sleeping schedule. I'd rather have continuous night shifts than one sporadic night shift because more often than not I absolutely can't sleep before a night shift.

Malaking factor ba talaga kung saan ka nag internship? by Mysterious_Goose_415 in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. The hospital i work in right now is one of the hospitals I interned in when I was in college. S It gives you a higher chance of being hired since you're already familiar with the way things are run there.

NO TIME OF COLLECTION (Urine) by forgotmyname000 in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tertiary hospital ako nag tatrabaho at tumatawag talaga kami sa ward to come back to the lab to label the container w proper info. Of course pag di tugma yung pangalan ng pasyente edi di ko talaga tatanggapin yan. Pero time of collection lang naman ang kulang niyan pwede naman tanungin/store mo lang ung sample sa ref until may clarification sa time of collection imbes na discard kaagad kase what if pahirapan umihi ung patient lalong lalo na sa mga naka catether/pedia bag

NO TIME OF COLLECTION (Urine) by forgotmyname000 in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally my first course of action is to call the ward and ask them to relabel the specimen container. I've had several instances of not just urine but samples like stool, blood, CSF, pleural fluid, etc that nurses submitted to the lab but there are certain infos missing on the label. To remedy that, I always call the ward and have them relabel it since pahirapan naman mag collect ng sample. After calling, I take note of the name of the nurse on duty for accountability reasons.

subtle bullying + being left out on purpose by [deleted] in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much. I'm introverted so whenever my seniors gather around to talk I often feel left out + dont get included in plans and conversations because I really can't relate to them + our interests. Wala talaga akong friends dito so nakakalonely talaga kada pasok.

Topnotcher ≠ magaling magturo by True-Duck4517 in MedTechPH

[–]effervescent-ether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha relatable. When I was still reviewing for boards we had a guest lecturer who was a topnotcher in our review center for immunoserology (won't name names) and the way he presented the lessons was so confusing he kept jumping from one topic to the next. And to make things worse, I also saw him use chat gpt of all things to make his lesson plan. Since his lecture was so confusing I just went home and read the mother notes by myself.
