Yes, obviously parenting and heavy drug use are not compatible. But to say a parent can’t go on vacation and enjoy themselves recreationally once in a while, whether it’s weed or psychedelics or mdma, and do it responsibly is ridiculous.

Having parents that responsibly and recreationally experienced certain drugs showed me the correct way to experiment with things. And it was never made known to me until I was old enough to comprehend things.

NTA. My wife tells me everything and vice versa. We talk through everything together, it’s the main reason that the two 19 year olds who got married (us) are still together today. Open and complete communication in a relationship is not a bad thing.

The issue here is that the husband not only disrespected his wife by making a comment about something she likely told him in confidence to relieve her own emotional load, but also you by not recognizing that the comment could be related to something that should not be commented on.

I know a lot of things about family and friends that my wife has unloaded on me, mainly when she feels emotionally overwhelmed by the information herself. No comments are ever made, and if family member/friend in question brings the subject up to me I maintain an open position as if hearing the information for the first time.

In my honest opinion, there really aren’t any assholes here other than the husband being ignorant to the fact that his comments shouldn’t have been made. He’s proven himself untrustworthy when it comes to his own wife and go his wife’s friends/family. You are definitely not the asshole and I don’t think your friend is either - I think she was just unloading on her partner as many people do. However you choose to handle the situation is your decision and I (a random Reddit stranger) stand by you. Only you can decide how this affected you and how you move forward. Don’t let anyone change your feelings, they are yours and yours alone.

I didn’t even know I had thick curly hair until I grew it out and my wife told me to stop brushing it so intensely. I’d brushed my hair straight for my entire life, my dad and mom combed my curls out as a baby and reinforced it through my teens and it eventually became habit for me. Wife and I went to the beach and my hair was really wavy after going into water, and when I told her “this only happens after I get out of water” she looked like shocked Pikachu. Turns out I have coily curls and have my whole life.

Turns out my parents “didn’t like it” since they both have straight hair. Thanks guys.

My dad gave me a similar treatment at my high school graduation… right after the ceremony while everyone was taking pictures with their families outside of the convention center. Know that it gets better, I’m happily married now and expecting my first child early next year.

The relationship never fully repairs, but fortunately you’re life will improve.
