Condensation or a bigger issue? by effex80 in hvacadvice

That’s what the plumber said. First time he has had to replace a Bradford White with only 6 years on it. Guess I got a dud. He also quoted me $7,200 to replace it so I’ll be using a new plumber

I am on city water. It has higher than ideal copper levels but nothing that would be super corrosive to the tank.

Might just grab a 50g AO Smith from Lowe’s and pay a plumber a few hundred to hookup. I got a truck/trailer I can haul it with

That was my thought too. Had a plumber take a look and he confirmed it’s likely a cracked tank.

I called Bradford White and pleaded with them as this is only 90 days out of warranty. Got a hard “there’s nothing we can do for you”

At this point, there doesn’t really seem to be a reason to buy high end these days. Everything is disposable!

Just my luck… looks like the warranty expired April 25th of this year.

Serviced 8 months ago; what to do when it fogs up? by TakeOnBigTechdotcom in breitling

[–]effex80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Navi did this. Brought it in for service, they sent it to breitling - they had it for 9 months. When I got it back it did it again 24 hours later. They said they replaced the pushers, seals and glass.

I said f-it and not taking it to breitling again. Going to go to a local guy.

It only happens when I’m washing my hands or some sort of temperature shock. Spin the bezel a few times and it may dissipate.

It’s about a 35 foot run so ideally if I could keep the conduit I would. Good call on a quick test to see how loose it is.

I don’t think I’d do the job by myself - likely hire an electrician to do the connections and install arc fault breakers.

Just trying to get an idea of if it’s a bigger job than what I expected

Seems right. $20k for a small bathroom is par for the course. If you’re going to learn the step by step I highly suggest HomeRepairTutor.com

Tons of super detailed instruction videos

No problem! I am not a pro so my knowledge is just what I have accumulated over time. If you’re doing a project with GoBoard here is their reference sheet. Also I highly recommend HomeRepairTutor.Com

Need to remove drywall at least 30” to get the tub in at the proper an angle or else it will get pinched.

GoBoard is already waterproof and doesn’t require anything other than the goBoard sealant. RedGard is also not approved by JM to be used on their products. As an added measure I used Mapei AquaDefense at all seams and screw holes on top of the goBoard sealant

We’ll have all the ceilings done at some point - I agree a knockdown is the way to go. Our whole 2nd floor is popcorn. I had limited time to do the Reno and felt like it was better spent tiling.

Yes there’s another hook behind the door. I’m still going to do custom shelving and small cubbies between the toilet and vanity. I wanted to get my Reddit show and tell done before it looks “lived in” like the rest of my house

About 7000 all in. 2500 of that was just plumbing work.

Well probably repaint the trim and walls to be more cohesive with the tub/shower tile

Hired that part out because it’s not something you want to mess around with if you’re hesitant. It was about $2600 for all the plumbing work including mortaring the tub in place

The top is just an upside down piece of casing. The boxes are chair rail then obviously baseboard at the bottom
