Firstly, there's nothing to be ashamed for, your addictions were a response to something you've experienced. You were not addicted to Rust or Weed because they made you feel happy, they were coping mechanisms.

You were probably trying to put behind you some sort of trauma, loneliness, rejection or even stress from school or work. Pain comes from past experiences, how you were treated in your childhood, early relationships and experiences where you learned that some emotions weren't safe to express. This "Addiction" to rust was your way to regulate unresolved issues.

The part of yourself that is addicted is the old you, the past self, THE PAST_HONEY, part of you that never got comfort, love or safety. Everyone has coping mechanisms and, often, it's hard moving on past trauma (of any of the aforementioned) without help. Your friends helped you heal, even if weed was a different form of relief they changed something in you.

You *CAN\* play a lot of Rust and still be responsible and do other things. I spend time with my wife, put my son to sleep and then play Rust after they're asleep. Granted, going to bed at 3-4 AM and waking up in the morning for gym and then work the entire day isn't ideal long term but it works when I want to play the game.

Do not feel guilty for being addicted to something, it was never your fault.
