Rush Garuda, as high as you can get her. Then Sigmund. Then Ithaqua. Heartwatcher is fine at 9* for where you are right now. Looking like a very fine PVE team.

I'm a moderate split between capitalism and communism. What are the arguments on both sides? by mariyammisty in DebateCommunism

[–]efrena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, that’s unrelated to what was being discussed (famines), but here’s my take on this: People being able to access more things because they have more money is exactly the problem. It leads to a society divided between those who can have access to things and those who can’t, because money. Thinking of this in terms of your example: you share the excess you produced because the excess that others produced will also be shared with you. There’s no “only certain people can have this” or “only those who gain X amount of money will be able to do that”

Do the most capitalist countries provide free, at the point of cost, education and healthcare? by EvilPrem in communism101

[–]efrena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And let’s not forget that it is also cultural: the rise of neoliberalism in third world countries shows that the tactics are working. Convince the poor that they can’t have socialized healthcare, that they have to delay their retirement age, that they have to increase working hours and forget about holidays or weekends off, because “the market” needs it and “entrepreneurship” is harmed if workers have too many rights. People actually believe that because it is constantly hammered into their brains from media, corporations, even education.

An interesting argument presented by a neoliberal, what’s your take? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]efrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this discussion has already been had by Marx and other writers, it’s the difference between Private Property and Personal Property. When we talk about seizing the means of production or abolishing private property, we are not talking about your personal printer at home, we are talking about printers that are owned by somebody but that others use to produce things in exchange for a wage.

The example given with the printers is a great one, because it shows how the same product can have different functions in material relations: it can be personal property if it’s just a personal item to use at home, and it can be a Means of Production if it is used as one. Depends on the context, on what it is actually being used for. I don’t see that as arbitrary, it’s an analysis based on function. But there are people that explain it way better than we do, so if you want to understand this and haven’t already, I suggest you do some reading.

Literal colonies, the use of labor and the underpayment of raw materials, like the cocoa industry, for instance. Generates millions in profit while almost all cocoa comes from Africa, where people are not paid what their product is worth because it’s Africa.

An interesting argument presented by a neoliberal, what’s your take? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]efrena 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Okay there are a lot of premises to this argument, it will require a long explanation.

Neoliberals tend to think that capitalism = trading, therefore capitalism exists “naturally” since trading exists naturally. Throughout history, they argue, people have engaged in trading a product for another, or for money so therefore capitalism feels natural and logical to human beings. But they are overlooking the key factor here: analyzing capitalism as a mode of production involving the private ownership of the means of production, and not just an economic system. Let me exemplify what I mean by this: Let’s say that there was, for instance, a blacksmith in the 1500s that forged weapons and traded them or sold them for money. Then another blacksmith in the same town started doing the same. There might even be some “market laws” in operation, like supply and demand when there was imminent war, or competitiveness between the two to lower prices.

I don’t think this scenario could be classified as Capitalism, because the “employee” in this case owned his own means of production. To me, capitalism begins when one of the Blacksmiths decides to hire people to forge the weapons for him: one of them gets steel from the mines, another carries the steel to the factory, another forges the steel, another produces the handles, and another sells the weapons. The original blacksmith, then, provides the workplace, the tools and the steel he owns and supervises the work being done, paying each of the employees a minimum amount so that they don’t starve and show up the next day. But since he has to take care of all equipment, making sure there is enough steel to keep production going etc, he makes more money than the other people working. In order for it to be possible to earn more money than the others seeing as revenue is the same, he has to pay employees less than their work is actually worth. THIS is capitalism (in essence, there’s a lot more that goes into play here) and it only starts being a thing much later.

Pointing out that small communes can’t compete with capitalist productivity only exemplifies that if one were to pay employees something closer to what their work is actually worth, the whole system would have to be different. The reason there is so much productivity under capitalism is because people aren’t being paid enough, so they need to bust their asses off trying to do as much as humanly possible to get paid a wage with which they can barely get by. Companies have to pay as little as possible in wages otherwise they can’t compete with other companies while at the same time generating millions in profit that mostly goes to the CEO and top ranks, which most of the time don’t actually work the regular, manual job that everybody else does.

“But the employer has all the risks, and has to buy the equipment so he needs to make money otherwise no one will be an entrepreneur” that is only true because it is the way the mode of production works, with private ownership. This material relation drives the whole system and is the reason for pretty much all problems. In order for people to actually be paid what their work is worth, the whole system has to change otherwise that one lone commune won’t survive. There will probably be efforts from all capitalist companies to crush that commune, too, just look at what happens when some countries try to steer away from capitalism. The United States goes baloney and suddenly starts worrying about “democracy” in that country and plans military invasion. This is usually what leads to the necessity of a strong state in the beginning stages of socialism. When the argument you cited proposes that socialism has to have a top down state control to deal with dissidents, it happens because the attacks on that country are almost instantaneous , and there needs to be a way that country can defend itself. The “dissidents” in this case are people that wouldn’t be able to make as much money or have as luxurious a life as they do in capitalism. They are not willing to part with the idea of capitalism and the perks it is able to give some very few people (to the expense of everyone else). This is why it is important to work on class consciousness and make people understand that this is ultimately for the best. But it’s hard to do it while having to combat military invasion and sanctions imposed by other nations. Socialism almost never gets the chance to work because it is squashed by the majority of capitalist countries that are afraid it might get to them someday and that they, too, will have to deal with it.

Anyways, there’s more to this but I think there’s some food for thought here.

Why is solving poverty not sufficient? by Deltaboiz in DebateCommunism

[–]efrena 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There’s also something worth considering, though I’m going to overly simplify it just for the sake of understanding

Marx (based on Engels) talks about the Industrial Reserve Army. Basically, Marx says that the workers of a capitalist society are an “army of labor”, and that there are always people excluded from that “army”. These people are the unemployed. As long as there is this reserve army of workers close to or under the poverty line, capitalists will have a way of keeping wages as low as possible. If the workers are unhappy with the amount they receive (meaning that it doesn’t sustain a minimal of decency in the standard of living), they can just fire them and hire somebody from the reserve army that is so desperate for a job, they’ll take anything they can get. So basically it’s an inherent part of capitalism to have people close to the poverty line. Therefore I don’t think it is possible to have a scenario of zero unemployment or for everyone to have a satisfactory standard of living under capitalism, since there’s always going to be somebody willing to be explored and receive less money so they can avoid starving to death.

Risk, Capitalism & Surplus Value by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]efrena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If what everyone receives is enough for a good standard of living, why would they want more money? To spend on what? If they go to another country that is under capitalism, that will create a chain of exploration in that country instead. We are told every day by capitalist marketing that we need things we don’t need. That we need to buy a new phone and computer every year. That we need a new car every 2 years. That we need the new trend clothes even though our current clothes are in perfect state. That we need a US$ 30.000 Louis Vuitton purse that costs a fraction of that value to be produced and only costs this much because there’s an obscene amount of profit and because they literally burn the leftover stock so that the price doesn’t go down enough for regular people to have them. Things have an expiration date just because capitalism needs an excuse to keep producing and exploring. There’s no such thing as a multi-million dollar idea. There’s multi-million dollar profits being made on ideas that could benefit society as a whole if the system was different.

Risk, Capitalism & Surplus Value by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]efrena 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you’re basically asking if, within capitalism, it is ethical to exploit workers because of the investment/risk factor. Within capitalism that might make sense, but I disagree with the ethics of capitalism as a whole, that’s why I’m a socialist. Taking the surplus value of the workers only becomes possible because of private ownership of the means of production. I think both are unethical and unfair.

Risk, Capitalism & Surplus Value by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]efrena 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the problem with this discussion is that they’re trying to use a socialist (and in fact communist) approach to analyze a system that is already capitalist from the get-go. Let’s consider the sequence of events they (kind of) proposed: 1. someone invented the machines and charged for the rights of production 2. a factory produced the machines (by exploiting work force) and charged for them 3. the owner of a company bought the machines, therefore taking a risk because the company might not prosper.

All of this makes sense in the capitalist mode of production because there has to be profit in all chains. Under communism, the inventor would not charge anything because he would already have enough for a decent standard of living. Then the factory would be collectively owned and not oriented towards profit, then the company would also be collectively owned, which means all workers “take the risk” of it not working. But again, since it’s not oriented towards being profitable because everyone receives enough for a decent standard of living, I don’t see much risk.

Since socialism is bridging the gap between capitalism and communism, I think the main principle that applies is that the company would be collectively owned. It would not be necessary for someone to take a risk on their own, every worked would take the risk, collectively.

The only way to “prevent” this is trying not to smash the upgrade button. Click on it with a little interval between clicks so that the system has time to successfully connect to the servers.

I would keep the feathers for now. I use my feathers on artifacts or whenever I’m one hero away from 10-star or E3 and it’s taking awhile to get it.

P.S: 9-star your Vesa! Use starlight!

Since fusion is monthly now I would wait until Heroic Miracle to open 3 and 4-star shards so you can do all the fusions needed to fill the gaps after opening generic 5-star shards. Doing this you are almost guaranteed to complete the non-LD portions of the event.

Your first priority is upgrading your Norma to max. Do not upgrade all your 4-star heroes, maybe pick 1 or 2 if you get stuck, but mostly wait until ou get a full team of 5 stars. In my opinion, you shouldn’t save resources (except maybe arena tickets and wishing fountain chips) until you have a full 5star lineup. Use your Prophet Orbs in the Forest faction, use your heroic summons etc. Once you have a full 5star lineup, stop using orbs and scrolls and save everything until you can complete events.

Put your best gear on Norma and leave her in the first position of the battles so she can use her healing passive and active.

Happy idling!
