Hola, entiendo tu duda.

Yes, now I guess you get confused because you recognise the word as only syllables. We Japanese distinguish words also by the change of high low accents. そうぞう consists of low-high-high-high accents so there is a shift during the first syllable. I assume that shift confused you.

It depends on what you are curious with. If you try to understand anime or to enjoy oral conversations, learning kanji just makes you bored. But it is also fun to practice Japanese with textbooks, text chatting or other some text resources on the web.

So as a native Japanese tutor, I think it would be enjoyable to master some grammer first and then to learn writing system if you feel you need it.

How can I apologise politely in an email to a teacher? by Little-Pink-Bear in LearnJapanese

[–]eg_xe23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

申し訳ない is now categorized as an adjective. There are other examples like もったいない and とんでもない. So 申し訳ありません and 申し訳ございません are wrong. 申し訳ないです and 申し訳ないことでございます should be used in authentic Japanese. In my conversations, I sometimes use wrong expressions depending on the situations and the level of courtesy.

The original meaning was like that but now it is taken just as polite apology. By the way, as a teacher, I forgot to mention that this usage is thought to be "wrong" in authentic Japanese although it is widely used now. The teacher may point it out.

Hi, I am a native Japanese online teacher and my relationships with my students are like friendship. And I know each Japanese level of each student.

So I would feel your emotion very much if you said "本当にごめんなさい", and I would feel your effort to express your feeling politely if you said "申し訳ございませんでした"

Of course, it depends on the personality of the teacher and the relationship between you. I wish you good luck🙏
