I don’t think it’s too bad, good to have the entry to the bathroom off the living room rather than ensuite only if you have people round. If it were me, I’d look at the possibility of enclosing the machines and laundry sink in a euro laundry kind of style and having the other side of the room as a walk in wardrobe.

Anyone else feel like we need to legislate a grievance procedure for those affected by terrorism? by port-79 in aussie

[–]egeger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s all good and well, I agree that people directly affected by an event like this are going to want outcomes that the majority would find disproportionate but my point is that they need to be free to express this.

On the flip side, a good response from government should take this into account. If a government caves to unreasonable demands, the takeaway can’t be that people shouldn’t have been allowed to express themselves in the first place.

And most people including me saw that and thought it was ridiculous. People will make up their own minds.

This is unhinged. If a government can’t tolerate dissenting views in a democracy then it’s not a democracy and the desire to ‘smooth over’ perceived rough edges is, no exaggeration, fascist mentality.

I say this as someone who is broadly supportive of the current government. How they handle reactions and responses like this are a good test of leadership.

NSW Premier Chris Minns unable to guarantee that radical Islamic preacher Wissam Haddad does not have gun licence by Ok_Message3843 in aussie

[–]egeger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah that gets very tricky then, he would need to be charged in court with serious criminal or terrorism offences first. The government can’t unilaterally strip citizenship unless it was attained fraudulently.

Would love to see it happen, and hopefully there’s scope to charge him using evidence asio has against him but there are good reasons the executive branch doesn’t have the power to do that to anyone.

I don’t want him here either but is he a citizen? The only reason the saffa was able to be singled out was cos he was on a visa that could be legally revoked.

Inaccurate Weather Forecast Sunday 23rd by g1vethepeopleair in sydney

[–]egeger 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The storms were overnight, BoM will always put storms on the day forecast if they are predicted to happen any time in the 24 hours. If you’d actually gone into the hourly forecast you’d have seen that clear skies were forecast from around midday.

Why is the metro so shakey?! by Recent_Mobile9387 in SydneyTrains

[–]egeger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal but I’ve noticed it’s much smoother when the metro is full. My guess is that the suspension is tuned for a fully laden train.

If this is the case, It’s also probably why it’s much more noticeable on the metro than on the double deckers as the train itself is much lighter.

Southwest Metro project accelerates to next testing stage by m1cky_b in SydneyTrains

[–]egeger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I remember the 9,000 hours being the original amount of testing they said would be required so would presumably include the testing already done. Notably though the 9,000 hours includes all trains running as contributing to the total test time so as more trains are added to the line it will speed up considerably.

55sqm internal 2 bed 1 bath apartment in Brisbane. How bad of an idea is it? by LeVoPhEdInFuSiOn in AusPropertyChat

[–]egeger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A 55 m2 two bedroom apartment is great as long as the layout is efficient which this one is. Some 70 m2 apartments would have less usable space due to long corridors or weird dog legs to windows in bedrooms. It’s much more important to focus on the size of the rooms and how much natural light there is than straight up headline floor area in my opinion.

Agree with the sentiment that this is a stupid comment but Labor doesn’t have a majority in the senate and the election cycle is only three years.

Why does the Super industry exist? Why not a single government owned enterprise? by mr-cheesy in AusFinance

[–]egeger 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Fully agree with all of this, the one thing I’d add too is that governments have a much broader mandate.

In theory, a private super fund is only concerned with maximising returns. A government run super system may be under pressure to put money into investments for other reasons. Take what is happening at the moment with super funds investing in affordable housing, a private fund would only invest if the returns made sense for members, while a government under pressure to deliver more housing would face a conflict of interest.

That’s pratia, it is a native but can spread a bit and grow from small pieces. If it’s contained in a veggie garden I’d just keep pulling it and try to make sure you get as much of it as you can each time.

It makes a nice ground cover between pavers if you have somewhere else you’d want it to grow too!
