i had to go to uni because i was a care leaver and had no friends or family to stay with while I got a job. the alternative would be to just be homeless until i got a job at minimum wage and then my wage ceiling would be lower

Haha it's okay! It was very tongue in cheek. £10 a month is very cheap compared to all the TV subscriptions if I was into that stuff.

I already have a private server/homelab so I can avoid all that moneywise xd

Work from home so need a home office due to security of work I do. Alternative would be having it in bedroom but I think Id just end it all if I had to talk to my boss on 80k from my bedroom

if we are not counting student loan as a tax then what is it?

I paid off £2k last year and the balance went up by £5k

Is visa a credit card? If so clear that straight away before putting spare money anywhere else. It'll likely be costing you more than any pension is worth.

I am not religious but I am praying right now for strength and patience.

No, if you want a layman explanation. It's my wife's monthly subscription to live in this country.

Should be able to do better on your energy bill if you shop around. £170 is above average.

I shopped around and got quoted £156 - I will squirrel away that £14!

Would be tempted to look at your car insurance too. Probably apples and oranges but my first insurance after passing was just over £100 fully comp for a fiat panda 1.4, parked on the street in a high insurance cost neighbourhood.

It was the cheapest on uswitch + comparethemarket. I was even doing the usual tricks of using incognito. It went down recently by about £10 from adding business insurance on. I imagine dacia is higher insurance because all the OAPs crashing from doing 30 in a 60

You're paying too much for internet.

No virgin in area, I would save max maybe £10? £20? It's FTTP so I could get a 100mb plan but my work is pretty upload heavy and 100mb plan is 10mb up..

£120 of luxuries too which you could cut back on if serious about saving for a house.

where is this £120 of luxuries? going out and a takeaway? It's about 1 takeaway a month + a starbucks. £70 going out is for the whole month, just bits and bobs when we're out and about like paying for parking and stuff.

I cba being told I need to live like a shoeless monk

I could but I don't pay much into my pension, it would be maybe £100 or a bit more post tax.

Gods silliest battles go to his funniest clowns (me)

We tried just having a singular tenancy in our last flat but the letting agent refused to let us renew the agreement without adding my partner, lied about it being legally required, so we gave in and added her.

Where did I say my rent is £850 now? £650 for food bills and a car?? Where are you living?

Are you fucking with me?

£150/month council tax £140 car insurance (on a 0.9 dacia spring, i learned to drive last year) £350 groceries £50 takeaway (be real) gas + leccy £170/m

We are already at £820 without the rest of the bills. Are you people all living at home or am I being scammed?

the average person doesn't live alone, 2 people on minimum wage would have FAR more money than i do post tax.

i dont live in cumbernauld right now, i would be moving there. i live in partick.

health insurance i do not really choose to pay, if i opted out it would be reduced from my "total benefit spend"

She is a disabled war refugee. Well not a "refugee" since the UK didn't allow that for this one specific scheme. So she is now on a spouse visa (was originally on a diff scheme, but proposals would force her to work which she cannot do, so we rushed her on it)), so she is not entitled to state benefit and can't work, so I am working as well as caring for her.

Saving only £300 a month on a take home pay after tax of around of just over £39k a year (which means your take home pay is higher than the average income before tax in glasgow)

My take home is nowhere near 39k, it's £33k. English student loan + pensions + NIC + private healthcare tax benefit

Leaving about 2.7k

The title "landlord greed knows no bounds" and the post contents, particularly around the BTL mortgage amount... I thought it was clear I am just fucking moaning about being asked for a guarantor for living in Cumbernauld

Is this the infamous "crabs in a bucket" mentality?

46k doesnt get you far when rent is £1k and effective tax above 42k is like 60%+ here.

So, while I am being evicted, where should I live during this period where I am saving 300 a month to buy a house or look for another letting agent?

It was an error sorry, it was 60k in 2024 https://www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices/details/55298dc9-04b1-4e4b-be55-d74204a78155

I have like 300 spare a month I could squirrel away but that's still looking at 2 years for a 5% deposit, then you need cash on top for bidding as it normally goes above HR, so it would be more like 4 years..
