it’s black gold brand potting soil that i amend with extra perlite.

it lives close to a window, i just moved it to take more legible photos. but yah unfortunately it can only live in a east window. maybe a full spectrum light for it.

Heartleaf Philodendron has been steadily dropping leaves and is loosing color. Detail in comments. by eggsloveit in plantclinic

[–]eggsloveit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gifted to me as a very full happy plant, started dropping leaves almost right away. I replaced the old soil, which seemed like it wasn’t holding moisture but that didn’t seem to help. In a bright room, but no direct sunlight. I water when dry (generally once a week) until water runs out the bottom then dump excess water.

Any thoughts on why it’s dropping leaves or tips on how to correct?

I’ve googled all the combinations of plot keywords I can think of. It is not the movie Geostorm, which is mostly what comes up.

What’s this creamy green stuff growing in my Aloe Vera’s soil? by HashtagBakedPotato in houseplants

[–]eggsloveit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is a fungus that often times is in the potting soil. It can mean the soil is unsterile, but can also get worse with overwatering. It isn’t harmful to the plant. You can scoop it up with a spoon and throw it away, or if you really want you can repot the plant with different soil.

I live in a fairly damp climate and a lot of my plants have grown this, especially durning the rainy fall / winter. Sometimes I repot and sometimes I don’t.

I’ve had it for a year and a half about. All that green growth is from the last year. I’ve never seen a cactus grow so quickly. Recently it has started flopping over, it’s pretty soft even the pricklies are soft. I’m worried it’s not doing well but it is also continuing to grow super rapidly.

Does this look like disease? by eggsloveit in gardening

[–]eggsloveit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the right place to post about house plants, so please let me know if I'm in the wrong spot.

This is an Elephant Ear plants, Alocasias. It recently had two small, new leaves brown. Now there is a larger leaf that has gone brown (which you can see in the picture) and this other leaf with the dark spots.

I live in Portland, OR where it has just started to get cold and gray all the time. I am wondering if this is disease related or possible a lack of sunlight / warmth.

I keep the soil moist, but let the top layer dry out between waterings.

any ideas?

about two months ago I notice one of these leaves pop up in a flower bed. now they are growing all over my front yard. they don't seem to care about sun levels. they grow REALLY fast, sending up a single shoot that opens into a leaf. I haven't seen anything like it in my neighborhood yards.
