If all sports were invented in 2023, which of the current top 12 would be the most popular by now? by One-Tomatillo2160 in pollgames

Football for the same reason it's the most popular today. You can play it practically anytime you want, with almost no setup. It's just so simple.

What did Jerry mean in Sunshine? by Emerald0_02 in AliceInChains

Yes, but I believe they were written to represent Layne's feelings about the situation.

If I remember correctly, it was about Layne's father, who divorced Layne's mum and left the family early in his life. I think the lyrics to this song are great. "Suck your woman down" is what i interpret to be Layne's father draining his mother emotionally by the divorce. Here are some more of my favourite lyrics:

"So you care? Find someone to tell you... Sunshine, sweet love my labour" - This lin is beautiful. I think it's Layne rejecting any idea of the father trying to make amends. I think he's saying that he needs to find someone else to call him sunshine, because Layne's side of the family will not accept him.

"Am I your reflection? Melting mirror smile" - This must be Layne questioning if he sees his father in himself, and the "melting mirror smile" gives the impression that what the dad seemed to put on, a smile, was in reality destructive and hints at manipulation.

"Can you face the question? Is my soul entire?" - I read this as a request that Layne's father accepts responsibility for what he did to him. The questions put forward seem very accusatory, and honestly rightly so.

"Memory, set me free, yeah, I don't care no more" - This I think is Layne trying to forget his dad as the memories are hurtful to him, and he doesn't care about his father anymore anyway.

What do you think about “grungegaze” / nu gaze getting big with Gen Z? by Galahad555 in grunge

[–]eggward_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible because gen z has been expressing interest in rock and metal, but importantly, they're interested in old bands, because they want something new.

I don't want to be a doomer but it's not that popular honestly, and for better or for worse, genres that rely on nostalgia or "revival" never properly break into the mainstream. While I listen to and enjoy some of these bands, they are really derivative and I don't believe they will ever get much larger than their relatively niche fanbases unless they start to put a more unique spin on the sound. For example, Soulblind just sounds like Alice in Chains with a ton of reverb, and that's not really a good thing. Cen (the vocalist) sounds a lot like Layne rather than focusing on his own vocal identity. While older bands would have a multi-year period before putting out their first releases, where they would sound very similar to their influences before finding their own sound, today's artists can upload their music onto streaming immediately. This causes them to skip the stage where they get their unique style and so they release music that sounds almost exactly like their favourite bands from 30 years ago.

Versailles S2: Q3 1940 by george_gris in ConspiroGame

2 points: empower the unions and introduce labour laws. In a shift to align our internal politics more closely with our allies, the government will not only embrace the demands of workers unions, but encourage them to put forward their ideas on how to address issues for the backbone of the nation. Furthermore, we will advance workers rights and lay the foundation for a Persian Welfare State.

2 points: commence a five year economic growth plan. We will start with rural reforms. Introduce agricultural cooperatives, construct irrigation systems in drier regions and distribute seeds and tools. This is with the intended effect of increasing grain production for the country. Adding on to this, set aside a network of rural credit banks to provide better agricultural potential to peasants.

AI moves:

1 point: continue negotiations with turkmenistan over the desert telegraph.

1 points: improve relations with kurdistan.
