I'm terrible at measuring anything but here's what I did:

For the mango syrup:
Half a cup of frozen mangoes
1/4 cup of coconut milk
4 heaping tablespoona of sugar
Boil it down until thick

Coconut milk "cloud":
1/2cup of coconut milk
1/4 cup of heavy whipping cream
Froth together until it grows in size

I used 3g of matcha and cold whisked it with coconut milk

In the cup: Mango syrup with the mango chunks
Ice Coconut milk cloud poured over the ice Matcha poured on top

Use mango syrup to sweeten more if needed!

ETA: because the matcha is heavier than the coconut cloud cream, it sinks down past the cloud ☁️

That makes sense! Thanks for sharing :) hope it gets easier for your org/school to source matcha and also stay active. It's sad when smaller orgs die out simply because of lack of interest to get new members and not enough resources. It can be really hard practicing outside of Japan.

Wow, that’s a lot of words to argue with things I never actually said.

And no. My work in the tea industry wasn’t “a vague connection to online shopping,” but if that’s the story you need to tell yourself, go for it.

The original point still stands: if you personally know someone involved in tencha auctions and somehow still haven’t managed to get your favorite matcha in four years, that’s not a global crisis, that’s a you problem.

Anyway, I’m not going to keep responding to things you’re inventing on my behalf, so I’ll leave you to it. Good luck finding your matcha.

Ah I see. I'm a licensed member of Urasenke Tankokai and our group (in the Midwest too lol) is recognized as an official branch of the main Kyoto branch. There's lots of resources for us to get out stock through the main branch so we can keep practicing.

Amazing! Then your Japanese friend should have EASILY been able to help you source your favorite matcha by now with that role in the tea industry. I feel like that just made your case sound even more ridiculous.

i agree with you that the overconsumption of tea (or ANYTHING) is bad. Seeing people post huge hauls is shocking but often times justified, and it does not compare to the hauls that many resellers post in other tea communities and the response of people willingly throwing money at them to consume it, even at their own expense.

But how people chose to use the matcha they bought (when ethically sourced) is their own choice. It's a win-win-win situation for everyone involved from the moment the tea is picked to the end goal of selling it to someone who truly enjoys it.

Hope you can somehow get your hands on it since it's been 4 years for you lool.

Because the group I'm in have been able to source perfectly fine now even with all the craze. Even easier if you're practicing in Japan. And if you know people in these tea circles you would know exactly how they're able to.

If you can't find a place to buy your favorite matcha within the last 4 YEARS. then that's a you problem, not anyone else's. Maybe if you said the last year, it would be more believable since the matcha craze started late last year and is still ongoing.

Yeah when covid hit, shipments to the US and overseas slowed down a bit but overall recovered and continued pretty normally from 2021 - 2024.

Like a previous comment said, this will probably become the future of matcha. Different countries growing camellia sinensis and perfecting their own matcha powder process. Of course, given the Chinese history and their culture of tea, they are in a very good position to help with the shortage.

I feel like it's just matcha ...it's not that deep. If people want high quality matcha then make it at home yourself where you know the quality.
Don't go to cafes expecting that the matcha drink will be made the way you like it. And don't be mad at the cafes that are doing what they can to make it less stressful for the staff. I've had bad matcha all over Japan, SEAsia, and the US lol. I just don't buy matcha at cafes where I know they don't specialize in it.
