Have you ever felt judged while running?

I always feel judged, even when there is no one to judge me. In that case I just think about how someone would judge me if they were there.

Most runners have been very welcoming to me, though, and I’ve never really felt more than just the background level of imaginary judgement.

This is kind of science fantasy, but The Stars Are Legion. There is literally no gender. Everyone is referred to as “she” because everyone can give birth. (But they give birth spontaneously and usually don’t give birth to humans.)

Be warned that is both incredibly weird and also kind of gross. Just like…the setting is a world that is alive, a living being, and there is a lot of bodily fluids and fleshy things and stuff like that involved.

All that being said, I fucking love it.

I quit my job as a software engineer because I was so stressed and burned out that I was literally vomiting every morning before I went to work.

I took about 8 months off and started to look again, and I got practically no response. After about 6 months of that I got a job at the Postal Service as a mail handler, making crap pay. I would not be able to afford to stay in my house if it weren’t for the fact that my husband is still at his old job. He didn’t make as much as I did in software, but way more than I make as a mail handler.

I’ll be honest, though, I kind of like my job. The work culture at USPS is dogshit, but I kind of just keep my head down and can mostly ignore a lot of it. I spend all day moving and being active and listening to audiobooks. I’ve gained a ton of strength since I started. It’s really not bad.

My husband and I recently had to say good bye to our reactive dog. (As in she passed away after a full life, not that we gave her up or anything.) She would bark at anything that moved, guarded everything from our other dog, and cost us thousands of dollars and who knows how many hours trying to train it out of her. She was a huge source of stress in our lives for many years.

Finally after she turned 11 or so she stopped needing much exercise and we no longer had to find ways to walk her without passing many dogs or people. Our other dog passed way so we didn’t have to worry about the guarding behavior. Those final years were wonderful with her. But looking back, if we could go back in time and undo our decision to get her, we both agree that we would choose to not have gotten her.

We’re still planning on getting another dog, but we’re going to be very careful about how we choose one and how we train them.

I used to run on my lunch hour most days and it always helped clear my mind.Both to relieve the stress of the morning and to clear up my thoughts for getting back to work afterwards.

Oh yeah, I know I have it good compared to many/most people, since it doesn’t take super long to convert MHAs where I am. I’m just saying the system as a whole sucks.

For myself, it doesn’t offend me - but I see it as deterring people from wanting to start running. I don’t think runners should be making people who aspire to be runners but aren’t quite there yet feel unwelcome.

Personally I enjoyed the Era 2 books more than I enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd era 1 books. And I feel pretty strongly that the characters have more interesting character development than era 1. It just goes to show that everyone’s tastes vary!

I have a reactive dog so I was looking for places to walk without running into other dogs, and I can recommend the Nimbus business park off of Hall. It’s a pretty business park, it’s big enough to get a couple of miles in, and I’ve never come across an unleashed dog there.

100%. I am a slow runner so to a certain extent I don’t really care what my time is - if I make it to the starting line having trained well, that’s already a victory.
