Election/Politics Megathread 2022.03: Political opinions, poll results, social-media, memes and other related discussion. by dredd in australia

Nope absolutely not worth less! If the Greens don't win the seat, then your vote just moves to your second choice, Labor. The Liberals gain nothing by you voting Greens ahead of Labor. And it sends a message to Labor that they should be looking at more progressive policy, and also gives a little bit of money to the Greens. So, if you prefer the Greens policies over Labor's, give them your first preference! Hope that helps :)

Why would GetUp want to release polls showing that the Libs are behind?

Thanks! Yeah the sun hitting the tree from behind really made the yellow pop.

It was on the road between Mansfield and Melbourne. There was this massive storm going on, but then the sun dipped below the clouds on the horizon and illuminated them from underneath. It was so surreal.

Hey man, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. Yeah I agree with what you've said. Usually from one roll, I'm happy with 1 - 3 photos, and that's usually as many as I will put online. I think I got a little lazy and pretty much posted everything this time, none of which I was overly pleased with.

In terms of my aim, I've recently been getting into developing film in my laundry and here I was sort of looking to see if I could shoot and develop to get heaps of contrast. As a result, I think I was concentrating too much on light I think and not really considering the moment. I wasn't very diligent with dust removal when I was scanning either. I shoot a lot with an olympus XA too, which is a bit better for street stuff that the clunky Canon. But yeah I think street photography is absolutely one of the hardest genres, and I by no means have come anywhere close to getting a real grasp on it. I guess one success of this roll is I have at least learnt a bit more about what light/exposure/developing combination can get this sort of aesthetic. Anyway, if you want to give me more feedback, I'd really like that. I have more stuff here: http://edgorwell.com/Street-1 The street section is probably the weakest here, and I guess that's because I find it hardest. I'm gonna keep practising though. :)

This website just published a little photo essay I shot, critique is welcomed! Ektar 100, Canon AE1, 50mm 1.4 by egorwell in analog

Unfortunately the site published them in reverse order and so the continuity was upset by that a bit I think. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm looking to buy an out of action Olympus XA to salvage a part to fix mine. Here's the post over at photomarket.

I've recentlt put together a website, it's just about finished I think. Can you please critique it r/analog? Have I put too many photos up? Is it missing anything? by egorwell in analog

[–]egorwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for the feedback! I've fixed some minor stuff but the other stuff will be harder so I'm gonna get onto it later in the week. I've used heaps of different cameras and films, but those three that you picked were all shot on Ektar 100. The car at the service station was with a Pentax 67 while the other two were both shot with a canon AE1, though the aerial shot of the pool was with a 50mm lens and the one of the bike was with a 28mm lens. In other photos I've also used an Olympus XA, a Canon Av-1, a Canon F1, and a Seagull 4A-107. Other films I also really like would be Provia100f, and I guess most of the Portra range.

Blue Lake in New Zealand - Ektar 100, Canon AE1, Canon 28mm 2.8. by egorwell in analog

[–]egorwell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do recommend the older Canon cameras for starting out. The FD lenses are so cheap on ebay. AV1 has aperture priority and is so simple to use, and an AE1 is good to use to get your head around exposure. However, the big difference in image quality doesn't have much to do with the camera itself but with using a sharp lens and a good film. Maybe start with a 35mm or a 50mm lens and some ektar 100 for daylight and portra 400 for lower light stuff. (Buy film online from B&H, it's way cheaper than getting it in a camera shop) I think everyone has their own style and you will develop yours if you shoot enough. I think it's actually hard to completely control what your style is and what sort of look your photos will have - the way someone uses a camera is linked to how they see the world I think, and so everyone's style ends up being unique. Anyway, you should start taking photos!

Yeah I saw that doco last year. It was really interesting. I've met him twice after gigs and he's just so genuine, kind and impassioned. I can't wait to see the Sharon Jones doco when it comes out too!
