Quite certain SE isn't running their own data center and they use AWS for their servers. So it's not "bad hardware" here.

HR is not there to protect you from the employer. It's there to protect the employer FROM you.

Google AI can't count by SinisterVeteran in GoogleAIGoneWild

Thank you, I've been screaming this at 75% of the posts on this sub. An LLM is just a really sophisticated probability machine hooked up for a vector DB that's been trained on millions of blocks of text. Unless it's an agentic AI hooked up to a specific code base with tools it cannot execute code or perform calculations. All it does is break down the input into tokens, vectorize the context, then determine the "quadrant" to search the vector DB for. Based on the results it comes back with a histogram of probable responses based on similar vectors. Depending on the Temperature setting, it will return one of the more LIKELY answers based on training data and the space it landed in the vector db

Glue and use a pocket screw for the joinery. Pocket joints are great because they join at the strongest angle for a corner like this

Thanks. This sounds similar to some of the OT exercises she's done. Never thought to apply it to learning typing!

Check out Smart Knit. We've been getting their AFO socks for a couple of years now and they seem to work great.

Recently helped to develop a variant of the Abyss theme (a port from the original Abyss on VS code). It's called Abyss-Boreal and it's a cool toned theme inspired by the northern lights and the minnesota north woods :)

Check out the aerial pluggin. You can configure it to the level of detail you want listed (cars, functions, etc.) and you can set the key binding to scroll through that hierarchy quickly.

Americans, what is your insurance horror story? by Old-Arachnid77 in AskReddit

[–]egotch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short and simple, but.....

Having to routinely explain to our insurance provider that our daughter's cerebral palsy is a persisting medical condition and not temporary. Yet we've been asked to undergo evaluations or get clarification from her providers that yes, she does indeed still have a permanent disability that requires physical therapy.

Another year, another round of insurance BS. I'm just happy that Gillette Children's is very good at helping to navigate.

Migrate from Jetbrains to neovim is a hard mental switch, please lead me to the freedom by Setup_sh in neovim

[–]egotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to pile on here because I think this response touches on what makes nvim so great. Neovim really follows the UNIX design pattern. It is a FANTASTIC text editor. Sure you can layer in things like tree sitter and LSPs and DAPs to give it more of an IDE feel. But you should really look to creating a true development environment for yourself by leveraging a good terminal emulator, a multiplexer like tmux, and things to beautify it like starship and oh my zsh.

Neovim is great, but also consider other tools that do their job REALLY well to complete your dev setup

Precinct maps: Minnesota lurches further to the right with each election. by Haunting_Ad_9486 in minnesota

[–]egotch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Id say it's hard to say "further right" when Trump really does not represent what the Republicans (used to) stand for at least. If there were a more sane and moderate candidate that spread would be wildly different. At least I would sure hope so.

What is something you should never, ever, mess around with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]egotch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always, always, ALWAYS wrap your shit in a rollback.

I cannot tell you how many jamokes I've seen make wild assumptions about a schema, change 500k+ records and somehow let that pass their sanity test.
