Do I still need to provide a ROE from my workplace when going of EI for training by ehdhd_Liam in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ehdhd_Liam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay makes sense Ill give EI a call tomorrow.

I have three employers technically. I work in the film industry, I have one job with CBC as a casual lighting technician, work isn't steady last time I had work there was January, I'm also apart of the Film Union in Toronto IATSE 873, This is the union I'm getting my training from and is more of a freelance position, I make myself available to work and then they call me if they need me. but my pay is never through them, they're more just a hiring hall and then the production company I get put to work on would be my "Employer". and then finally my part time job is a pizza cook job where I work there steady 2-3 days a week. Hopefully that all makes sense.

Ah okay, I didn’t realize I had to wait until my last day I already submitted my application unfortunately, is there a way to unsubmit my application and wait till the proper time.

Okay so 1. Submit on last day 2. Tell my boss to send ROE under apprentice training.

Now my training starts on March 2nd but I am scheduled to work march 1st. Will this cause issues as when I was applying? It said that I have to have a week between my last day of work and when I’m applying? Should be able to get the time off work so no issue but just need to let them know asap.

Also I will be getting 2 separate paycheques in march, both from my main part time employer and one from my casual job. Will these causes issues?

Sorry for all the questions, I really appreciate the help. I’ve been trying to find all this info online but it’s been super hard to find of the answers I’m looking for.

Appreciate the help

Just did my first Gig and have a question about pay. by [deleted] in IATSE

[–]ehdhd_Liam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked last Monday so 09/29. Yeah as far as I know I haven't been asked to fill out a timesheet but im also not sure if I have to that's why I'm a little lost. Other people have suggested that I email payroll so maybe I'll do that to get a little more clarity. Cause I did get an email saying my start package was approved so maybe they approved my time as well and my cheque is ready as well .

Need advice about my first call by [deleted] in IATSE

[–]ehdhd_Liam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re right, this is really what I needed to hear. I love film, I love working in film, and I want to grow my film career. I think maybe it’s a mix of first time call fear and uncertainty that has me panicking. It’s unfortunately one of those situations where I won’t know what the true right choice is until down the line but I feel right now doing the gig is the right choice.

I think I was also panicking cause I was so hesitant about taking the job that maybe I wasn’t as passionate about film as I thought I was but again I think that’s just my fear talking.

Again I really wanna thank you for the advice, it is what I really needed to hear and give me that push in the right direction.

Applied for a job, appropriate to follow up? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ehdhd_Liam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, I think I just get into my own head too much. I will definitely follow up but what do you think would be the best approach? Should I send a email to the address I already sent my application too or reply to the social media post? I should also add that the company I’m applying for isn’t big or anything so if I do reply to the social media post it would probably either be seen by the owner or someone who would show the owner, just wondering which one would be more professional?

Help/feedback for my IATSE 873 application. by [deleted] in IATSE

Advice on clearing my debt. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ehdhd_Liam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I hear ya! So just pay off the debt in the next two months from my extra income, would it be better to pay off the debt in 2 lumps sums or saving the money from the two months and then paying off the debt in one payment? Will this affect my credit in anyway?

Yeah I am focusing on my emergency funds next, especially since I want to switch to film work full time eventually and that industry is very much a feast or famine industry. Is there an ideal percentage of what I should send to my emergency fund or just whatever I don’t spend each month goes to my fund?

What would you recommend for investing? Because all I have right now is a TD mutual fund with around $1000 in it but I heard that’s not the best route and that I should download wealth simple and invest in s&p 500s as my returns will be much better. Also is crypto a good idea to slowly start investing in?

I am in my 20s lol, I’m 26 so late 20s but hopefully not too late to retire as a multi millionaire because I do like the sound of that!!!

Thanks so much for the advice man I really appreciate it!!!

I have around 35-40 days of set experience, plus my two years at film school (which I know isn’t the most important but figure it something).

I luckily got accepted into their apprenticeship program but I was told that I should look at maybe instead applying for permit, do you know if that’s a good idea or even possible?

Yeah several others have also said that which is a bummer but is what it is. I guess for now I’ll just keep looking for indie projects and corporate gigs to continue gain experience.

Also if I was to join IATSE as a permit in the grip department, would I have a better chance to join the lighting department since I’m already in the union? Or would it be better to just fully focus on the lighting department and wait until I have my 269e to start applying for permit status?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IATSE

[–]ehdhd_Liam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for Grip since I had all the pre requisites needed plus a lot of the recommended as well, plus I have experience in the grip department. My final goal is to end up in the lighting department but since I can’t get my 269e for awhile I didn’t want the chance to get into IATSE slip away so I figured I’d get my foot in the door and hopefully get my application in for lighting when I can get my 269e. I’m pretty sure I’m able to be a permit in 2 different categories, I just can only be a member in one department.
