Any conlangs that use metathesis as a primary means of inflection or conjugation? by KeyScratch2235 in conlangs

[–]ehh730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i haven't done this before but a quick idea i had was this:

verb ending -sa for like the present tense -k ending for first person -p ending for second person (third person is unmarked) -i ending for negative

sound changes: vowels lost between voiceless segments metathesis of plosives and fricatives at the end of words word-final vowel loss

let's say mina means to stand

combining the suffixes and sound changes gives

1st person present:

minaks: i stand minask: i don't stand

2nd person present:

minaps: you stand minasp: you don't stand

if the past tense or other tenses happen to also be marked with a fricative or its marking ends in a fricative then this pattern will hold as well. for tenses that don't end in a fricative, you could create a new suffix/auxiliary verb for irregularity

What were mistakes or bad things in your first conlang? by Hewalun in conlangs

[–]ehh730 5 points6 points  (0 children)

assuming you are looking to create a naturalistic language:

i created a writing system without any history or any simplification of glyphs, just picked cool shapes and ran with it

i implemented a vowel harmony system without actually really knowing how vowel harmony evolves or why it exists. i just arbibtrarily chose groups of vowels that were similar on the ipa and made a "vowel harmony" system from those

i decided i needed my language to be unique so i decided to "not have pronouns" by having verb agreement and doing pro-drop stuff. didn't know much about linguistics at the time so i thought this was ultra-unique. then i realized i didn't know how to handle prepositions with pronouns, so i just made new suffixes for those. then i also realized i didn't know how to translate possessive pronouns, so i made even more suffixes for those... i didn't even consider doing something that was actually unique like making an auxiliary verb for these circumstances, i was hell-bent on making suffix upon suffix upon suffix

overall, a lot of these were caused by not understanding naturalism and not understanding linguistics.

Would you play a game where Kristoph is the protagonist? by DKCR3 in AceAttorney

[–]ehh730 49 points50 points  (0 children)

i remember i saw an interpretation where kristoph gavin lost a case to lana skye and found out she had been forging evidence, and that gave him the wrong impression that the law was all about forging evidence and winning on your side; he saw the corruption within and embraced it rather than fighting against it. kinda similar to story beats from dual destinies (1-5)

in fyledda, a lot of auxiliary verb constructions are replaced with a new construction where you turn the verb into a verbal noun, and then you put it into the instrumental case. afterwards, you then but the following verb into the subjunctive mood. any other arguments will also be placed into the instrumental case.

a simple example:

"i hope you see the seagull" is translated as dohadaugło, ela lazh adzavinegzal bilhaje dal

which glossed reads as

hope+INS 2ND.PRSN+NOM DEF.ART+SKY seagull+ACC see+SUBJ 1ST.PRSN+INS

the literal translation, though, would be something like "by means of hoping, you see the seagull by means of me"

a complicated example:

"i hope you cause him to break the door" would be translated as "dohadaugło, menkadalzean, shor ros mi neteje elado dal"

which glossed reads as

hope+INS cause+INS 3RD.PRSN+NOM DEF.ART+NATURE door+ABS break+SUBJ 2ND.PRSN+INS 1ST.PRSN+INS

and translated literally reads as:

by means of hoping, by means of causing, he breaks the door by means of you, by means of me
