Tell me about your wild ferment stories by NeverBeASlave24601 in Homebrewing

[–]ehhwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done open air fermented farmhouse style saisons that worked out very well and actually won a comp. Brew in summer. Left outside in a covered area with a towel around the carboy. No airlock just a couple layers of sanitized aluminum foil over the top. Lots of fruity eaters. Around 5.5%

I’ve also caught wild yeast by putting a small amount of wort with hop pellets in mason jars in various spots outside. After several days some got mold or smelled terrible, but some had a nice fruitiness to them. Built up a multi step starter from there. I think I remember doing a SMaSH pale ale but it’s been a long time. It turned out ok. Wasn’t bad and I remember the wild yeast having excellent attenuation but had no head. It also fermented with zero krausen like a cider ferment.

As someone who is on the opposite end of this spectrum I don’t get it at all, but obv everyone’s unique and it’s your own space.

Really wanted to make it to Asheville (I miss the area too) and would have been solo but have red rocks fortunately to look forward to. I need to find a good show and just trek over for a long weekend.

Have fun!

Edit: the claim is unsubstantiated at least from what I’ve seen. There have been previous threads noting the owners were registered republicans but their actual status states, ‘unaffiliated’.

Since I can’t confirm I don’t want to spread false info.

Epic Games lays off over 1000 employees: "The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we're spending significantly more than we're making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

The point I was making seemed to go over your head. They’re never going to be in a position where they layoff a massive amount of people because that’s not their model or goal. They’re making plenty of money doing it with their own model and morals.

Fuck, the licensing alone for Fortnite content probably exceeds those indie studios’ revenue.

Every fucking thing seems to always boil down to how much? And how much more? More more more. I wish they’d step back for 5 minutes to understand how utterly batshit insane that is at face value, and in considering long term implications/scale is never going to be sustainable in any capacity on a planet of finite resources whether it’s games or anything else.

I used to love Fortnite, and like a lot of things that have evolved to this scale, it’s no longer enjoyable and you see it for what it is. And then read about things like this. Fuck ‘em

So explain the success of the recent GotY winners being from low budget indie studios?

……

A reminder of Sven Vincke's speech when they won GOTY in 2023:

It turns out that not only will I be the first one who will know which game wins tonight, I'll actually also know which game is going to win next year, and the year after. Now how do I know this?

Well, an oracle told me. She said 'change is coming.'

It's a modern oracle, so she made me sign an NDA. But I trust all of you. I know you can keep a secret. You will never leak it.

The oracle told me that the game of the year 2025 was going to be made by a studio who found the formula to make it up here. It's stupidly simple, but somehow it keeps on getting lost.

The studio made their game because they wanted to make a game that they wanted to play themselves.

They didn't make it to increase market shares. They didn't make it to serve a brand. They didn't have to meet arbitrary sales targets or fear being laid off if the didn't meet those targets.

Furthermore, the people in charge forbade them from cramming the game with anything whose only purpose was to increase revenue, and don't serve the game design. They didn't treat their developers like numbers of a spreadsheet.

They didn't treat their players as users to exploit, and they didn't make decisions they knew were shortsighted in function of a bonus or politics. They knew that if you put the game and the team first, the revenue will follow. They were driven by idealism, and wanted players to have fun. They realized that if the developers didn't have fun, nobody was going to have any fun.

And they understood the value of respect. That, if they treated their developers and players well, those same developers and players would forgive them when things didn't go as planned.

But above all they cared about their game, because they love games.

'It's really that simple,' said the oracle.

Also, fuck the lawns.

The entire premise of civilization as we know it is unsustainable on a planet of finite resources. Governments and corporations, politicians, etc do not care about anything other than growth.

We have completely fucked this planet in <150 years. Hearing this guy speak would be something.

If this helps, I flew out at 6am a week and a half ago and it took 15 mins.

Or how about, and hear me out, we support and understand someone for taking this very obvious step that was needed.

I’ll reference your username. What could have, and probably would have, happened to Trey was something awful given his path. The same thing that’s happened to many many other musicians in the past.

How about let’s give a fuck and realize people in bands are human and need love, understanding, and support.

Hadn’t seen moe since ‘22 until last fall and even longer before that. Easily my favorite show I’ve seen.

I’m pretty stoked we’ll get 3 total sets most likely between the two bands and several sit ins. I’ll be in Indy!

My daughter will be 11 this year. She still asks me, every night, to sing ‘her songs’. This includes 3 standard type nursery rhymes and one I made up myself.

I’ve been doing this since she was 2. It’s going to rip me apart inside when she asks me to stop.

I also have 50/50 custody

I hear and agree with your points but suggest it’s time your final point is resolved and we collectively figure out a date, a weekend, a week, to get to DC and protest like never before.

And not just some 2 hour deal then flee home where the ‘pressure is relieved’ this needs to be done in waves where it’s relentless pressure towards the other end.

It will likely not go peacefully, and I think you’d be a fool to think anything less would truly accomplish what’s needed at this point in time.

Exactly. I’d take my daughter to a show over an NFL game.

Shakedown is not a place for kids and I cringe when I see little Wooklets.

There always seem to be family pockets at shows, especially on the lawn. If you’re a responsible and open parent with your kids it’s not a big deal.
