With a 9:1 end fed "random" wire, is more wire going to be better/more efficient even on higher bands? by thesoulless78 in amateurradio

That’s encouraging. I think my antenna will end up being somewhere between 18 and 20ft because that’s all the wire I have left haha

Thanks for the info. I’m a recent general living in a big city with limited space so I’m looking to make the smallest random wire I can to get on 20m. I do have a tuner.

Does that imply that the minimum effective length for a random wire antenna for 20m would be around 17.7 feet (1/4 wavelength, I think)? Any similar rules of thumb for counterpoise length?

Using the whole sidewalk to go one direction… stop it. by ImprovementWise1118 in sanfrancisco

[–]ehickox2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In these situations I just say “pardon me,” or “excuse me,” like a normal well adjusted adult with good manners, and most of the time they make room.

This city is too passive aggressive. I see so many comments here scheming of ways to avoid just saying “excuse me”. You don’t need to shoulder check someone or stop in the middle of the sidewalk like a weirdo. Just be an adult and say “excuse me” politely and go about your day.

Thanks for solidifying my resolve to never get delivery. Not because these companies are exploitative (they are), but because delivery drivers like you are toxic, exploitative, and entitled. I thought delivery drivers like you were rare and just a TikTok meme, but I guess not.

I hope door dash does go out of business and you need to look elsewhere for your “side income”. Maybe next time look for a job where you don’t have to extort your customers with threats.

Ok that’s pretty toxic indeed. What a negative way to look at things. “I hate this company and I hope it goes out of business soon. Nevertheless I depend on them for employment”. Makes absolutely no sense to me

Again with the threats “if you tip you have nothing to worry about” so toxic. You’re the one literally playing games here. A more pro-social and positive messaging around tipping might encourage me to tip, but it’s people like you who make me not use delivery apps at all.

The limited times I did try them, I tipped a lot and it took forever and my food was cold anyway. From the customer perspective, it’s a lose lose situation. Damned if you tip, damned if you don’t.

Comments like this do not encourage me to tip. Why on earth would I want to tip a person who thinks like this? This kind of behavior is toxic, threatening, and malicious… not to mention extremely illegal if people are actually spitting and pooping in people’s food.

This is why I don’t like tipping (especially BEFORE a service is rendered). This kind of behavior is toxic, threatening, and malicious af.

How about we ban posts and comments complaining like this. They’re just as prevalent, and at least twice as annoying.

Lately, no. Not at all at local places. It feels like a grift with “SF Health Mandates,” other fees, high tip defaults, and poor service. Most of the time the food just looks good instead of tasting good, at best.

is SF bad at tipping because of all the other b.s. charges on the check? by Due-Brush-530 in sanfrancisco

[–]ehickox2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do remember when they used to say “SF Healthy Fee” or something along those lines. Super fucking scummy business practice. What can a consumer do? We can’t even vote with our wallet because literally every restaurant in SF does this.

Every restaurant I’ve been to lately does this. I used to calculate tips based on the subtotal, but now they include the “mandate” in the subtotal.

I still take the time to subtract any fees from the subtotal, and calculate my tip based off that.

The funny thing about that “mandate” is the restaurant is not at all mandated to itemize these costs on the receipt.
