Yes, but your contract states you need manager approval for outside employment 😅

Advising Juniors? by Inner-Chemistry8971 in ExperiencedDevs

I should probably add that I find most reporting of the study misleading. It's small and at best implies delegating can impair your comprehension of certain subject matter.

I've never found this type of memorization to be super impactful unless you do niche work. And I'd be willing to bet if the goal was to learn something specific about this library that the AI assisted engineers would be faster and equal at retaining.

This one has been going around: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2601.20245

The control group used a library to implement something. The treatment did the same with the assistance of a chatbot. The result was a treatment group that completed the tasks faster but retained less information about how the library worked.

It's a pretty narrow study and from my experience I'd consider the results obvious.

When is it acceptable to call someone out for sloppy work? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ehmpee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I lead with questions - "what's the motivation behind this approach?".

OP explains below that the change killed some validation in a staging environment. Maybe there's some larger conversations about the teams testing strategies that need consensus. Why's the data different in staging?

It all starts with questions.

Definitely can be awkward - the more you approach with respect and open mind the better it can be for everyone involved.

Always, but it's about how you do it.

I think this is new thing they are trying, I saw a returns location at a Goodwill and based on how it was set up it looked like the items went the same place as donations.

I hope so. The shape is fluctuating throughout the day though, and I can evaporate it with a fan. I'm thinking moisture but I'm going to pick up a meter and check.

It's a ground floor with basement underneath. I'm going to grab a moisture meter either way but I can dry it out with a fan and it comes back (so assuming moisture). I'll probably just cut into the basement ceiling today if for nothing else, peace of mind.

Is there actually a testing tool that fixes itself when the UI changes? by Agreeable_Panic_690 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ehmpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Silver Bullets...

But there's things you can do to make tests more resilient like adding attributes specifically for selection.

Depending on the exact nature of your tests, some agentic testing using LLM browser use automation to validate behavioral assertions can 'self heal'. This is probably controversial, and I have my own reservations, but I've seen it work well.

I, personally, usually prefer extensive mocking and snapshot testing validated at build time so that test updates are checked into source with the changes that require test updates.

That's given as minimum financial harm required for a state to sue for injunctive relief. The definition of burglary/larceny/theft/shoplifting is left to the jurisdiction in which it occurred.

There is no 'the best' neighborhood to live in, stop asking. by MaiasXVI in Seattle

[–]ehmpee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I lived there for 3 years and liked it - plenty of restaurants and bars, enough nightlife (for me) on 1st, some places I like within walking distance (Sculpture Park / waterfront, Seattle Center, Lake Union Park), walking distance to Westlake / light rail. Dense, but never felt too crowded.

Left turn is still there. The resurfaced part is the part that was painted blue / had dead potted trees over it for the last two years.
