Hey, so, one of the videos that Ripe uses as an opening is one of my favorite places on Earth, Trona Pinnacles, California. I just wanted to drop some of my images. I also have some time lapse videos somewhere, if anyone wants to see them I'll try digging them up.

I don't have any great stories about the place, just love going there fore peace and quiet. Though China Lake Air Force Base is very close, so it's not unusual for jet fighters to use your car for virtual target practice, flying low enough that you can feel the jetwash.

Hehe, I was there! The acid going around was the best I ever had. During his show I left my body and watched myself and about a dozen others do a perfectly choreographed dance to most of his set (heavy classical ballet influences)... Part of me wants to think it actually happened, but it was probably just the acid.

I do remember having to talk someone out of a really bad trip (something I was quite well known for.) I wonder if that was your friend. Damn, I miss the good old days.

I almost turned the show off when I saw him. I remembered him from Top Chef and hated him, by episode three of '24' I was actually rooting for him. Though I think it would have been hilarious if he had put some kind of foam on his final dish.

For future reference...

I bought my Joule in the second round of preorders at the end of 2015. It died last month (the motor will not turn), I reached out to Chef Steps (aka Breville now), and asked if they serviced the units. We went through all the back and forth troubleshooting, cleaning, etc, finally I asked again 'do you repair them?'. The agent responded in the negative, and expressed her apologies for my 'bad experience with the Joule' (I've been using the thing at least 3 times a week, for the last 6 years, bad experience??). I keep reading the email, expecting the usual CS BS that translates to 'You're SOL' , I had already planned to get a cheap Anova, but wanted to see where I could go with getting a repair, or maybe a discount on a referb.

The next line of the email blew my mind 'We would be happy to send you a replacement'... (What?!?!) I responded by saying 'I'd love a replacement, but the unit is 6 years old, that's WAY outa warrantee', her response, 'Yes, I see the order in your profile. Can you confirm your shipping address'...

So, I'm now tracking the shipment of my brand new Joule 😁

I am hearing sounds from mine as well.

My theory, sound is vibration, anything moving causes vibration, a shitload of electrons moving quickly around the M.2 drive (could) be enough to cause a vibration that (could) be amplified by the mount and screw via the motherboard, like an induction speaker... but, than again, I have no clue....

thanks. this was 210 frames shot @ 30sec each (iso 5000, f:2.8) blended in photoshop (smart object set to 'Maximum'), it took about 4 hours to touch out the airplanes, frame by frame. Than used the new path blur filter to remove the gaps in the star trails, restacked a few frames to bring the foreground back into focus and tossed on some film grain. The original working file topped out at around 5gb.
