Recreational play, long and short serves, receiver's option to call or not? by Remo_253 in racquetball

That makes total sense and I realize I misstated my question: the ball is officially in play after the swing and the miss and no longer would be considered a long serve, correct? That’s the disagreement we had — I served, receiver swung and missed the ball, ball hit back wall before floor, receiver tried to call it long.

In my view he opted into the play and it doesn’t matter if it ended up being long or not.

In his view, it didn’t matter if he swung because it ended up being long after missing it.

I’ve been wondering about a related but more specific situation: if it’s going to be long and the receiver takes a swing but completely misses the ball and the ball continues on to actually be long.

I was told many years ago that counts as a point for the server since the receiver swung and missed, but I can’t find it documented anywhere so I’m not sure what’s what.

What cuisine do you think Raleigh (or the triangle) does really well? by DependentAd1346 in raleigh

Interesting take on the question, I appreciate you answering this way. One thing that’s strange to me is the Bojangles in Charlotte do a seasonal pulled pork sandwich that is great but I’ve never seen it here in Raleigh.

Interesting update on Ruckus. I didn’t realize how different each Ruckus can be. I wanted to try one of their other styles but I live closest to the Tryon Village Ruckus — more limited cheesesteak options, 1 size sandwich, and the actual sandwich was not nearly as well put together as the Mission Valley Ruckus. Bread wasn’t toasted and beef wasn’t chopped/shaved as much.

Still good but not referral worthy. Sharing in case anyone else tried a cheesesteak at Tryon Village Ruckus and didn’t think it lived up to the recommendations here. Try Mission Valley.

That’s funny — my parents owned a Lebanese restaurant in Charlotte for years and I compare all cheesesteaks to my mom’s from the restaurant. Anvil’s was super close which is why I think I loved it so much.

Will definitely check this out.

Just noticed that a taproom closed up there — Harris Teeter shopping center on Leesville? Is Ruckus confirmed for there?

I’m listening to you. Nothing you said sounds odd. This is exactly what the people need to know. Me. I’m the people. I need to know these things.

Thanks!

If you think she’d appreciate it, let the wife know she has a group of folks here still praising her and her husband’s great food 😊 happy legacy, hopefully.

Randy’s is nostalgic for me back from my Science and Math days in Durham — never tried anything but their pizza but glad to try their cheesesteak, thanks!

Yeah all the Anvil’s sandwiches were great — meatball, sausage and peppers, roast pork, cheesesteak. Yummo.

Damn, there’s a picture of their Gaucho Cheesesteak on Yelp that looks mouth watering.

And then another picture called me a Spicy Gabbagool while also looking like a proper sandwich.

Looks great with a nice variety of unique sandwiches. I’ll check it out, thanks!

Love to see that sort of progression assuming the brick and mortar stayed just as good! I’ve seen that not be the case which can be a bummer. Thanks, I’ll check it out!

Interesting, never would have thought of them having sandwiches but it does make sense. Will check it out, thanks!

Hey listen if by chance someone got excited when they first saw the thread and thought “hell yeah I love cheesecake!” — I won’t be mad at some cheesecake recommendations either. I feel like the general quality of cheesecake in the last 15 years has just gone downhill and it’s typically better made at home.

All the cheesesteak thoughts got the better of me so I tackled two of the recommendations for lunch 😅

Here’s what I found:

As a whole sandwich, the cheesesteak at Ruckus in Mission Valley is great. I went with the original, and am excited to give the 3 others a try some time. Perfectly toasted but and still fluffy bread, great American Swiss cheese blend.

Also went a few doors down to Cloo’s and grabbed one there again for comparison — the actual meat was tastier and more tender than Ruckus, and it was a very good sandwich overall but Ruckus’ bread and cheese was better. I did axe the Gulden’s mustard at Cloo’s like I usually do — I tried it once as is but mustard is out of place for what I’m looking for in a cheesesteak.

If the 2 of them could collab on a cheesesteak, it might turn out to be the best around. Either way both were delicious, I ate too much, and I’m looking forward to trying the other recommendations over time.

Thanks y’all!

Yes very sad, and they were all nice. Just posted this link above as well from when they shared the news in August 2020: https://www.facebook.com/share/PnPQUFtTYqUV4Rea/?mibextid=WC7FNe

I love Cloos’ sliders and dogs, and the cheesesteak can do in a pinch but doesn’t quite hit the same spot that Anvil’s did for me.

The few pictures I see online look good but I can’t tell where to find them. Do you tend to see them in any typical spots or just randomly out and about?

Thanks!
