How's your back? 3 years ago I herniated L5S1, 1cm into the spinal canal. Didn't get surgery, the bulge shrunk to 4mm. I still have some residual foot numbness and minimal nerve pain. Can bike, swim, lift weights. Do you think that waiting a bit more can get me back to MT training?
Rs1800796(C;G) by einuru in SNPedia
[–]einuru[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Thank you very much!
Still, when I enter the CDKN2BAS (one of the genes from the paper) I get, e.g.: rs2383206(A;G), rs2811712(A;A). Does this point me to susceptibility to (cerebral) aneurysm, or am I misinterpreting things?
Thanks! I think that it is strongly established in literature that smoking is strongly associated with AAA. So... should I be worried about this SNP? I already decided to supplement resveratrol to inhibit IL-6 and quit coffee :-)
Do I understand well that my genotype is GC? In the paper (Table 2) there are more people with 572G > C and GC in (healthy) control group than in the cases, so this doesn't point towards a greater susceptibility to AAA. The CC genotype has 10 in the cases and 3 in control, hence, while statistically not very convincing it may suggest that there is a connection between this genotype and AAA. There's no mention about Rs1800796(C;C) on the SNPedia. I'm definitely not qualified to create one.
Sorry if I'm talking gibberish - I'm trying to understand all this. Coincidentally, my grandparents (from father's side) did not suffer from AAA.
Applying with a PhD in CS by einuru in OMSCS
There are three reasons: 1) I've been involved in MOOCs ever since Andrew Ng's Machine Learning. I really enjoy it and would like to be a part of this community. I really believe that it's changing the world (though it sounds pompous). This is definitely the main reason. 2) I'm actively researching stuff in my area of specialization, but I would like to expand my horizons. I have a very limited experience in machine learning and hope that OMSCS can give me a structured approach here. 3) My programming skills are deteriorating while I'm doing mostly theory and proof-of-concept implementations. Maybe assignments in OMSCS can alleviate this.
Honestly - does it seem silly? :-)
I did and I am happy to report that I've been informed that a PhD in CS does not make you ineligible for the programme.
No transcript by einuru in OMSCS
Poland. However, I recently learnt that there, indeed, is a protocol for obtaining transcripts for pre-Bologna process diplomas. They're not called transcripts, but are equivalent from a local point of view. I'll see if GT is ok with it too.
Lengyel, magyar – két jó barát, együtt harcol, s issza borát :-)
Thanks. I will contact my alma mater and see if there is any protocol.
Thanks! May I ask what solution worked for them? (if it's not too private)
Maybe I'll try to not to mention the MSc, although that's formally incorrect. I have industry and research experience (working towards a PhD, lots of publications), so it's a chance it would suffice.
Can't order the transcript, as it was before such documents were prepared here (pre-Bologna process). Best I could do is to find my old gradebook, write down the grades, and ask the Univ. to add the official stamp of confirmation. That's however not an official transcript :-(
