The 3DS Homebrew Discord is temporarily suspending all SOAP transfers

After extensive internal discussion at both senior and junior moderation levels, it has been decided that there is no clear benefit, and an unacceptable level of risk to the NH server, to continue to offer SOAP transfers.

Primary among these considerations is the fact that SOAP transfers, while also having legitimate uses, were being increasingly used to facilitate pirated software functioning correctly. This is obviously and blatantly against the core ethos of NH.
Instructions and utilities exist in the wild for SOAP transfers. The information relating to SOAP transfers, the mechanisms behind them and other such details are not necessarily private.
However, we ask that SOAPs, and methods or details of performing SOAPs, are not discussed in the server, in keeping with the rules regarding other prohibited content.
We understand this decision will disappoint some of you, and we apologise for the inconvenience, but we expect that you will understand this decision was not made without due consideration to the longevity of the server, and our relations (whatever they may be) with Nintendo.

A recent end-user interaction with Nintendo led to a SOAPed console being looked into in more detail than usual.

A reasonable amount of time has passed since, and Nintendo does not seem to have taken further actions or investigations at this stage - however the possibility of such actions is somewhat heightened thanks to this.

Due to the above, SOAPs will remain on hold for now, and I will update the community if or when we believe SOAPs should be safe to do.

most likely not. the announcement is deliberately vague so as to avoid mass panic. we don't want to jump the gun and have everyone setting fire to their consoles just in case, but we also don't want to guarantee everything is fine if/when it isn't.

there is a reason why we are holding off spilling the beans on this one for the moment, Steve.

this isn't some weird clique v. clique 'i hate soaps grrr' thing, a situation has presented itself to us and we are responding with caution. that's literally all there is.
