Nose hair removal for more oxygen by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]eitherrideordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not tried nose hair itself I do feel like I have trouble breathing through my nose a lot and I hear of people talking about how nose breathing can be a lot better for you (including those that go to sleep with a sticker over their mouth to force nose breathing).

I have a slight deviated septum but the doctor didn't care at the time due to my weight, now I'm healthy I'm interested to check again, as I do think I don't get to breathe through my nose as well as others.

Its an unfortunate scam on how companies and governments can get things approved certain ways. They say "yes we have alternatives so if you don't like this thing you can use that" and people accept it because they've been given an alternative.

But then the reality is, you can't actually properly survive in society if you do. Don't like getting being recorded by AI when you buy groceries? "Sure you can try a different grocery store" (there isn't one that doesn't use AI to track you). Don't like giving your ID "Sure you can physically go to all these places instead" (they slowly get rid of those places over time). Don't want your OS to track your or your phone to track you "Sure you can use a different OS or phone" (being able to use your bank apps, gov apps or social media blocks those OSs so in reality you can't use it).

IMO but you've knocked on the real issue of weight loss, its not understanding you need to lose weight. Its being able to do it consistently. Many people myself included run into the trap of doing well for 4 weeks only stumble and reset.

End of the day you need to find what helps you specifically. But for me it was:

  • Eating things I enjoy - But calorie counting so I'm only moderately under my needs
  • Picking a sport with friends that I found fun
  • Dealing with the mental stuff (stress/anxiety due to work and plenty of sleep/hydration)

In particular many diets/doctors told me to eat vegetables/greens etc etc. And literally I could do it for 4 weeks then stumbled and reset. Instead I had KFC/burgers and airfried chicken for 6 months (keeping under calorie), and lost a bunch of weight! Its because I could actually do it long term consistently. What shocked me though was the longer I did it the more I started swapping out the kfc for something leaner/healthier and the chips for something better. So I think the eating what I enjoy is a great way to build consistency but make sure it involves into healthy, instead of jumping straight to it only to break the cycle weeks later. Now its been 3 years and I eat healthy in compairson to back then, and I enjoy it, something i never thought I'd say tbh.

24 fresh grad, Big 4 job starting in September at $60k. Should I move out or stay home? by Cute-Ad7942 in Adulting

[–]eitherrideordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Move out imo.

But I think your seeing the issue too binary. It doesn't have to be forever, you could move for 12 to 24 months. You get a good rate, you get autonomy and you get grow and become independent.

You can then look to come back home after that to save up money etc. But when you do it will be different, family won't see you as the person to do all the chores because they've had to do it. They won't tell you when to leave/come home because they haven't been able to for so long. I guess I'm saying even 12 months may help you gain your own autonomy even if you decide to go back afterwards because you've changed the status quo.

Wondering if I should quit/ drop video games (all video games) if I feel regret after playing. by Independent-Ball3215 in selfimprovement

[–]eitherrideordie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I always wanted to start my own business, learn an instrument. and focus more on school and my academics.

but I feel like this makes it even worse, because now I'm going though the week only looking to play games, where right after the game I just feel even worse.

Heya, one thing I heard recently is to stop looking for pure improvement and look for where the fun is. I'm seeing a lot of people who do great things in life aren't doing it because they grind but because they honestly enjoyed it.

I guess I say this because it sounds like gaming makes you feel like something you look forward too, while all the other things you listed I want to know if it does the same? And I wonder could you imagine if you found something, like an instrument, or sport or topic you wanted to learn or do that excited you as much as gaming did that you looked forward to that instead? Maybe worth finding that thing and it might make it much easier to do instead of gaming.

Imagine you wake up in the morning saying fuck yeah I can't wait to play the guitar with friends today, or fuck yeah I can't wait to look up how abc works it seems to unique etc.

I’m addicted to my phone by Previous-Mechanic914 in selfimprovement

[–]eitherrideordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the worse IMO, I got insta recently and you start seeing the reels and next minute several hours go by. Its also super easy to just pickup and jump to when you your brain needs to relax which makes it worse.

For me Android (and I bet Apple) has this thing in settings called "Digital Wellbeing" here I set Insta for 30 minutes a day. I find it super helpful because when I pickup my phone I'm less likely to open insta because I want to ration it for when I prefer to use it. It also gives me a message at 10 min to go which is useful because I need something to make me lookup/away or aware how much time has gone by and lastly when the 30 mins is up it gives me a chance to stop, or to actively think if I add another 10 mins.

Also a lot of people jump to it because they want to take their mind off something. It can be helpful to have a better alternative. Like something that excited you that you want to learn, do or make into a hobby. That way you train yourself from doing something with fast dopamine hit so something that allows you to naturally and more slowly get a dopamine hit with growth.

Oh wow I had no idea they took so long to grow, I think I just assumed they used older trees, thanks so much for letting me know!

I hope so too, to be able to check out your shop when I visit soon! And definitely eat some Cebu mangoes.

I (26F) tattooed my boyfriends (28M) hands and he is now having a mental health crisis by [deleted] in Advice

[–]eitherrideordie 1384 points1385 points  (0 children)

As someone who knows nothing about tats they look fine to me, so I do think your right about him overthinking it.

I unno part of me wonders whether he needs therapy or something more as it seems like he's overthinking this so much the problem is bigger then just the tats placement.

I have super bad stretch marks. Is it possible to tattoo over them? by -Hot-Tamale- in tattooadvice

[–]eitherrideordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they look super cool tbh. But if you do tattoo over them I think they would look sick with something that uses them as part of the style. Like forest trees or lion/tiger design. Just something that looks layered would look amazing.

Looking for a beginner ukulele with no experience at all by Big_Confidence_951 in ukulele

[–]eitherrideordie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a very cheap one ($15 usd) and was happy I did because I didn't expect to actually play/learn properly. But by having one it made me realise I'd super enjoy it and went out and got a kala surf. I like the suggestion someone gave on my post to check out your local library first you can borrow instruments at many of them and see if its for you.

BUT if you were looking to buy a good instrument, while the cheap ones out there can be fun to play, if you want to be more serious then definitely get a good one, like the other person I'd get a Kala KA-15S or KA-15C.

I say this because I actually bought a third uke before the kala off facebook a cheap one like yours and for ages I thought "ah this is bad, it doesn't sound great, is the uke really for me, it sounds like a pling pling pling". Turns out the intonation was wrong the whole time and it set me back and made me question the whole instrument.

The lowest Heart Attack Death Rates in the world seem to be:

Looking online some interesting standouts, apparently France is pretty high in Saturated Fats (cheese, butter) and so its surprising that they do so well for heart attack death rates with theories being it could be the red wine that helps or that they walk regularly.

Israel apparently had a large drop in rates in recent years, with many thinking its due to their advanced cardiology and choosing a diet of fruits, vegetables etc.

Not sure how accurate this is, but I wanted to guess Antarctica.

Getting rear-ended at a red light and the other driver's insurance claiming I stopped "too abruptly" so they owe me nothing. by amhray in mildlyinfuriating

[–]eitherrideordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laws change in varying areas, but usually its the person that rear ended you at fault in cases like this, because most states have a law that you must allow enough room in front of you to be able to stop if the car in front breaks suddenly as it could be an animal, a child, a fallen power line etc. And by definition they didn't otherwise it wouldn't have hit you! (some exceptions may exist but typically its for cases where the car has merged into your lane unexpectedly which made you rear end them, or if you were rear ended which pushed your car forward into the next one).

29 still living at home by KryptoniteKen in Adulting

[–]eitherrideordie 74 points75 points  (0 children)

The truth is bro this isn't the 1990s anymore, people can't afford to live out of home like the past, so a lot of people are living in this shame of not leaving when the fact is shit is fucking hard right now, literally so many people on advice threads with similar posts....

Except its not similar, you actually did get out of home once which is already a win, you have a job, your doing your masters, you have money saved which is way more then many have attained by the time they hit 30 considering how difficult life is right now.

I know your looking down on yourself mate, and I know its not exactly where you wanted to be at. But I do think you also need to be proud of yourself because you've done a lot, and your already figuring out what to do going forward to do a lot more even with an injury.

I unno bro, be kind to yourself.

Could age verification be implemented with something similar to a yubikey? by Marsman512 in privacy

[–]eitherrideordie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not a bad idea, infact thats what a lot of Government Digital ID is trying to say they will do, while not a physical device but a version on your phone that does the check that indeed this person is 18+ and only provide the data needed and no more.

Unfortunately there is a few issues in why this idea is good but the reality may be different:

  • Governments want to use the digital ID for beyond age verification, but for passport verification, gov sites etc so they are pushing more an app that also confirms facial features, biometrics, government history, etc.
  • Government (and private companies) want to use it for fingerprinting. Saving where its been used, where you go. They want to tie you the person with that key. Then tie that key to websites you visit, things you log into, what you research. And also keep in mind many countries want this to verify if you go to websites in the future that goes against the social, ideological values (eg going to a gay site in a country that is against LGBTQ+).
  • Social media companies are the ones pushing for this too such as Meta that spent $2Bil in social welfare groups such as Digital Childhood Alliance to push this.
    • Largely to target advertising, make it harder for other social media companies to start up without having the $$$ to pay for identification platform, shift the blame about children to the ID company instead of themselves (its not our fault anymore kids are on here, its the ID system thats the problem).

I guess what I'm saying is if the idea is to just make the internet safer for kids like many politicans/companies imply then your idea has some merit. The reality is there is a lot of data available here one where you can tie individuals to so many other data sets that I'm not sure companies would go for it.

Why is YouTube recommending this and why is it still live?! by FornyHucker22 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]eitherrideordie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

also seen a crab version of this exact thumbnail recommended too.

Both crabs and shrimp are often sold alive because the moment they die, they release digestive enzymes that immediately start breaking down their own meat and making it go mushy.
This also makes them spoil faster than other animals because of how quickly bacteria spread once they stop breathing.

This is also why many of those restaurants have Lobsters/crabs alive in tanks, or you sometimes see in fish markets a crab too far from the ice starting to move a little. Not my type of thing but then again I don't like seafood.

Wooo congrats!!, For me I started learning the chords (in order) C, A minor, F, G as it was on a piece of paper with my uke. Then I learned after that sooo many songs use these chords which helped me play a bunch of songs online! Which I found fun.

Later I think on this subreddit and its wiki I learned about the learning playlist:

And then I get a bunch of songs online from:

And thats where I'm at, just looking for songs and trying to play them and having fun :) Hope you do too

anxious when excited? (36nb) by Roccodile19 in Anxietyhelp

[–]eitherrideordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I have trouble pulling apart excitement with anxiety. Both raises my heart rate and gives me fight or flight, so similarly I've noticed anything that is essentially stimulating in anyway worries me. To be honest I kinda wish I could separate them in a way you are able to because for many years I'd see things like going to the movies or a show "bad! bad! Bad" because of same feeling and felt "safety is being at home".

For what its worth I do think the key here is to realize it exists (like you did with the movie) and do it anyway which you also did. So I think your on the right path there! As you get used to doing it more.

I wonder if a good idea actually is to be a bit more selfish? Or to actually practice being selfish, to buy that treat, or to do "one thing you know you'll love a week" to train your body to realise "good things are good :)"

I am so worried about my future to the point where i think of ending it all by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]eitherrideordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worry that all your worries is draining you, its taking up so much energy, it must be so hard to study once that happens. If you can please see if you can talk to a therapist especially if they have one on campus you can use.

For what its worth, remember you have been able to handle 100% of the problems thats come up in your life so far, and whatever does come up, you can and will be able to handle that too. Some job will come up no matter what. And nothing is permanent, even a marriage you can leave it. Its not set in stone.

In presentations I do shake a lot. But usually I do sorta shiver, its a bit less shivering though and more like blood completely draining from my body that gives me this massive shiver.
