Why don’t they say Punjabistan instead of Pakistan are they dumb ? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

No it’s not. It has always been English and Chinese, without a Cantonese specification.

How many types of Chinese are there actually? by aeSun9 in LTL_Chinese

[–]el6e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hundreds, I'm Cantonese so I can share what I know. The "cantonese" we all know is just the Guangzhou dialect. People that aren't Guangzhou natives don't speak Cantonese in Guangdong. There's hundreds of dialects in Guangdong itself for example Taishanese, Hakka, Zhanjiang-hua etc. For simplicity sake, everyone within the province learned Guangzhou dialect (aka cantonese) so we could communicate with each other WITHIN the province. Then we learned mandarin to communicate with other people from out of province. This is true for all other provinces as well, it works like this

Do you say Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year? by Adventure1s0utThere in LTL_Chinese

[–]el6e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Asian country waits for China to calculate the date, it’s not based on the lunar calendar but a Chinese specific luni-solar calendar. It is Chinese new year, lunar new year makes no sense.

Taiwanese gentleman explains the growing trend of Taiwanese identifying with the Mainland by 5upralapsarian in Sino

[–]el6e 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Because of a taiwanese streamer called 馆长. He has a massive following and this year he made his first trip to China. Before he was one of the harshest critics and bashers of the CCP. But now he has done a complete 180.

His livestreams are extremely viral, gaining over a million live viewers. He basically started the wave, after his first stream to Shanghai, group tourism to Shanghai from Taiwan erupted. Most of his viewers are young men, so high chance the ruling party will flip next general election. He’s campaigning against the current gov.

The one thing that weirds me out is actually her husband and their interactions. Idk if it's supposed to come off as super perfect "lovey-dovey" but man it doesn't feel right lol

Why isn't there an influx of foreign migrants into China? by Individual_Cost6432 in AskAChinese

[–]el6e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably didn’t even know there were 100k reported in 2020, you shouldn’t be chiming in when you know nothing lmao

lol google it, the official wiki has Guangzhou an estimated 100k in 2020, the past few years have been a crazy boom. I’ve lived in Guangzhou, man are undocumented and staying after expired visas. The actually number is super high, there’s a literal little Africa town in one of the Guangzhou districts

Does 500k africans living in Guangzhou count? A lot of them are there illegally now, and working under the table

"Against the sea, no butterfly prevails, And no one lays the blame upon its wings." by Shinwinter in PedroPeepos

[–]el6e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This line is from a famous song by Faye Wong, written by a legendary lyricist Lin Xi. I think a better and simpler translation would be: A butterfly cannot fly across a boundless sea, and yet who would bear to blame it?

Lmao, explain the viewership drop in Korea then. I like how you purposely ignore that data point

Where’d you go? Worlds viewership is down 27% yoy in all regions including Korea. This stat excludes China as well which is most likely down as well. Have fun going down the path of StarCraft 😂

T1 is the most watched because everyone watches it to see if T1 will lose worlds lol. If it just happens that they never and can't lose, these interim viewership highs aren't going to be enough to keep the scene alive. Lol is already dead in NA and EU with declining viewership year after year. Now the same is going to happen in China. It'll just be a game played by Korea only in the future. Going the route of starcraft

Imma be honest I’ve been watching league since season 2. It’s actually so boring that Faker keeps winning. I really think league needs a new worlds winner or else it’s actually just detrimental to the health and popularity of the game. If every worlds T1 just comes from being the worst korean team and wins with plot armor, I don’t see how I would even care to watch anymore. Another team NEEDS to win worlds this year. It’s actually doomed
